Luk3us 63 Posted November 15, 2006 I hate linux with a passion. For course work I've used, Debain, Slackware Suse and RedHat. Of the four I prefer Debain. Why is that? Well thats because of those 4, Debain was the only one I could config and install and work properly... So what Linux OS do I prefer? As long as it has X installed I don't really care. comander starlin 6 Posted November 15, 2006 you will hate me when i say Solaris, i found that so eazy to use the commands in, but over all i did enjoy red hat because it was, good to work around in, and Ubuntu was really easy to set up servers. http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/ Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted November 15, 2006 Desktop Linux, or server linux? Server Enterprise Linux: HP-UX Server Free Linux: CentOS Desktop Linux: Red Hat Share this post Link to post

Tree 0 Posted November 15, 2006 Probably should have quoted starlin in my response. You are indeed entitled to your opinion, and I wasn't trying to change your mind  . do you have a link to both of the server linux? and i admit i do prefer red hat CentOS HP-UX is enterprise, meaning it costs money. A lot of money. It's also a bit difficult to learn. Also only runs on Itanium processors. So it's probably not an option for you. But, here's a link to it. Solaris is good only if you run other Sun apps. Otherwise, it's horrible. Share this post Link to post

So it's probably not an option for you. But, here's a link to it. i gathered it would be expensive because i assume the UX stands for Unix? anyway, i am experience with Unix, i passed a Cisco course in it, "Fundamentals of Unix" Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted November 15, 2006 Yep. UX does stand for Unix. What're you planning on using this Linux box for? Development server? Desktop? Web server? Just curious. Share this post Link to post
comander starlin 6 Posted November 15, 2006 Yep. UX does stand for Unix. What're you planning on using this Linux box for? Development server? Desktop? Web server? Just curious. well that does explain why it is so pricey... any Unix program cost a bomb. anywho... a Development server but that is long term, i am working with a few of my mate with it. we are just starting really but we plan over christmas to work at it alot. Nyerguds 102 Posted November 16, 2006 which is why windows is better but online games should be hosted on linux servers if they are that good Correction... this is why more gaming companies should follow UT's example and port to Linux. Share this post Link to post
Mario 0 Posted November 16, 2006 but they wont cause linux i think is harder to make games for Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted November 16, 2006 No, it's because most companies will lose money publishing games for Linux, as most gamers don't have it. Share this post Link to post
