GameSpy Go Hands On with the C&C 3 Demo

Recommended Posts

GameSpy have posted their own hands on article giving you an overview of the C&C 3 demo, just like IGN did the other day. GameSpy seem to hung up on the whole graphics thing, as the sample below describes.....

While C&C3 looks like it's not going to stray too far from the classic Command & Conquer formula, we couldn't help but feel that the graphics in the demo seemed a little dated to some degree. There are lots of nice little touches, like heat shimmers in the wake of jets, but overall, it doesn't look like much improved over C&C Generals, and not as impressive as last year's Company of Heroes or the just-released Supreme Commander. On the plus side, the graphics are pretty colorful and it's entertaining to watch once you get a lot of units on the screen at once, and the game ran perfectly smooth for us at the max resolution of 1920x1200.

IGN's demo article basically covered everything the demo has to offer but if you need more info to soak up before the demo arrives click here.

We've seen the demo in action, and then we've seen what EA have been giving us of late. There's a marked improvement on the whole thing. What they've probably failed to realise is that the Demo is not part of the final code, and probably is quite an early code of the campaign with the videos tagged in.

It's not graphics I care for anyway, I'm just interested in good decent gameplay with the story to match.

Well I agree the GFX in the demo were pretty uninspiring... a taste of running at low specs. I was *really* quite suprised at how slow everything ran in the Korean videos, missles and troop movement. I guess they turned everything way down to help us see everything in action.

But in terms of GFX, the Nod MCV is an example of dissapointment, and the GDI ion cannon is an example of my standing ovation.

Time will tell...

I quite like the Nod MCV it's different. Better than the tracked vehicle we're used to.

No problems with the concept and design... just the GFX. Too chunky and not enough detail in the skin.

To be honest this won't beat the standard set by Company of Heroes. Graphically and Gameplay wise C&C 3 is already well and truly beat. In those departments, the bar is just set way too high.

Storyline has a good chance though

(I take note of the comments that this is an earlier build of the game so all is not lost.)

I am just saying I was pretty dissapointed by the gfx of this mech. I'm just comparing units within the universe not with other games...

Using just the german site's screenshot of nod mcv, and a mammoth tank from another of their random screenshot (not in demo) - and there's quite a degredation in quality in my opinion.

Especially if we went around and compared it some of the blue zone screenshots with the nifty tree shadows in the background... the detail on this 'mcv mech' is just not there...

The game looks fine, why get so focussed on some rough pixels anyway? The action will unfold to damn fast for you to notice it. Plus its a demo, and you should all know the drill about pre-release game demos.

Look here http://www.cncnz.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=4 at the screens IGN posted from the demo, they look great.

The low quality graphics, slow speed of the units etc could be put down to the low specs of the system the demo was running on.
