Recent subtractions

I thought of trying to make a post in Fyre/Beowulf/Fenring's thread and noticed that I've simply lost ground. So for you unlucky souls like me, what in your house recently decided to stop existing?

For me, I just lost my personal Hewlett-Packard. An old machine, with a:

Pentium 4

256 megs DDR-266 RAM (4 x 64)

Nvidia RIVA TNT2 Pro 16 meg video card on AGP

Windows XP SP2

80 gig IDE HDD

60 gig slave IDE HDD

It served my purposes well, it kept my AIM running all day and did my interweb browsing, and it played all C&C games well, except generals/zh. I used it for the browsing mentioned above, as well as constantly playing Renegade, Quake 3, and my vintage games. (Doom, Doom2, Final Doom, Quake 2, Quake) It also served as my room's jukebox, housing some 8,000 MP3s.

Well I came home the other day and smelled burnt silicon in my room. I knew immediately I was ****ed. My screen had gone dark and my tower was smoking and dead. No fire as far as I can tell, just a meltdown. The HDDs are fine but everything else is totally dead. Also noteworthy is that the relatively new carpet beneat said tower is now melted to it's shape.

I could build it's twin for around 200, but if I'm going to build I may as well do it well, the result being the 700-dollar machine you can see in my sig. I guess it WAS time for an upgrade anyhow.

You know why hewlett packards, and most pre-built systems die? Crap power units that's why. There was a 250w in this new rig I've got which isn't going to even try powering my Nvidia 7900. So I got a new 500w power supply, after cutting the back of the base to pieces to fit the unit in, I'm heavily armed!

Yea, thats why when I realized I needed a new graphics card, I realized that my old Dell from 2000 wasnt even going to pull a 6600, so I just made a whole new comp.

lol... You know it might have just been easier finding a PSU that was the right size than taking cutting it to shreds. :P
