IGN Preview C&C 3's Singler Player Missions

Recommended Posts

IGN have a new Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars preview posted on their site. Using an early build of the game, they have played through almost all the GDI and Nod single player missions. IGN have also taken a quick look at the Scrin in the skirmish and multiplayer modes.

Before you start taking a look at all the new stuff in this preview, like the screen shots, please be aware that these are considered spoilers, so stop reading now and don't click on any of the links in this news item if you want to keep all the surprises for release day later this month.

Here is a sample to get you started.

There aren't going to be a lot of surprises in mechanics here. The basic game includes base building, unit creation, and army management. The interface has been updated, looks slick and functions well. It also provides a much better and less obstructed view of the battlefield, especially on widescreen monitors thanks to the interface transparency. While we've had a chance to test all of this out in the demo ourselves and previous gameplay sessions, this is the first chance we've really had to sit down with the single player campaign. C&C fans will probably be pretty darn happy with the results.

Both the GDI and Nod campaigns are rife with the live action cuts to push the story forward. EA has spent a lot of time and money developing the fiction this time around to add to C&C 3's presentation value and have done a good job. Yeah, the scenes are still pretty cheesy, but they're certainly fun to watch and bring back all sorts of fuzzy nostalgic feelings. We'd share some, but we'd hate to ruin the fun of discovery too much. You can check out the trailer below if you want to see one what some of the scenes look like for yourself. The actors in general are fun to watch and include a surprising amount of recognizable faces aside from Joe Kucan (a veritable icon himself as Kane) such as Michael Ironside (a bajillion shows, movies, and games), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian from Star Wars), Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost), Grace Park (Boomer/Athena from Battlestar Galactica), and Tricia Helfer (Number Six from Battlestar Galactica). It's fun to see the faces again and should be pleasing for those C&C fans out there.

There is plenty more in this preview other than just reading. People like pretty pictures, so there's 19 new screen shots for you to analyze. Check out 4 of them below......

Apparantly 'real' game reviewers have gotten their copies of a near-final build 9 days ago (on a Friday). Unfortunately they did not give me a copy at the "launch event". I thought a launch event meant availability, but I will have to wait 2 more weeks like the rest of you. Only I have already played against the Scrin. I won't say anything on it, probably Gamespot does a better job on that.

I knew the Scrin campaign was going to be short but only 4 missions?

They probably couldnt come up with any ideas for any other missions... either that or the Scrin come in late in the other campaigns.

You only get access to the Scrin campaign only after you finish either the GDI or Nod campaign. It's 5 missions and you should think of it more as 'bonus' missions. Probably you only understand the relevance of them after you have finished either campaign.

I hope that if there is an expansion pack it won't be a corny name like "C&C3: Alien Invaders" And it should probably have something to do with the plot, too. Firestorm had nothing to do with the missions in the game. :?

Nah the Tiberium killed off all the germs :P

And yes the Firestorm mission did follow the storyline foo. Why did Nod Steal an EVA unti? Because Cabal betrayed and left them? Why did they go after his main harvesting facilities? To take out his primary revenue so they could stand a chance in the final assault. The whole thing made perfect sense. Foo :P (>crdgohan)

well we know there will be an expansion. As for Nod's avie mechs...oh well. I guess you cant have everything
