Saracen 16 Posted May 17, 2007 OK I'm curious. I'm stepping up and confronting you guys here so I want good, and honest answers. As you well know, CNCNZ has a sister site called Petro-gamers and we cover Petroglyph games, and you know that the team are made up from developers of the original C&C games, Earth 2150, Age of Empires 3, civilisation 3 & 4 and all sorts. it's a real mixed bunch of talented guys, and they have Frank Klepacki  Anyway our team currently consists of Myself, Sonic, Lion from CnC Den, Alphabear and Zee Hypnotist. A good strong team that you all know very well, in other words. Now my question is. What is preventing many of you guys here from actively engaging the Petroglyph community, and showing stronger interest in the game Universe at war? I'm just curious, not gonna bite ya head off making claims or what not. I'd just like you to give me some feedback on what you guys think about Petroglyph and our sister site Petro-gamers. That way we can work towards the C&C Community's understanding of Petroglyph and its community. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted May 17, 2007 I'm not saying for myself (I do come over occasionally) but I think others are used to C&C. It's their comfort zone and they know a lot about it. And UaW, they've seen pretty images, but what else is there at the moment? A discussion here and there, but the game isn't out itself, there's nothing to play to have fun with atm. A lot of people aren't interested in things they can't play for themselves. Once the demo released, I bet tons of old CNCNZers will realize. But I'm this way too. If it's not a game series already know I don't show much interested until it's released. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 17, 2007 I'm interested in UAW because it ain't being made by EA, because this entire C&C3 disaster is really starting to piss me off..... And hell I'm not even an EA hater, well not yet anyway... Share this post Link to post

Don't forget I extracted the IGN video with ingame goodness. There's also the vodcast interview with Frank Klepacki as well I think it's time to stick a link in to sway a few extra visitors over http://www.petro-gamers.com/features/videos/ Share this post Link to post
Louis EX 0 Posted May 17, 2007 Maybe its because the site looks exactly the same as CNCNZ except for colour and font. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 302 Posted May 17, 2007 Maybe its because the site looks exactly the same as CNCNZ except for colour and font. That's the idea I was aiming for. When I built the Petro-Gamers layout last December I thought long and hard about it, do I go for something radically different or stick with a successful formula. If you read this http://forums.petro-gamers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40 you will see it was all planned from the start. Its no secret that CNCNZ.com and Petro-Gamers share many similarities, its called running them in tandem. The thing is if I were to start designing a new layout for Petro-Gamers tomorrow (which I'm not..... or am I??) I would probably adapt the design and use it again for CNCNZ.com, or vice versa. I have big plans for Petro-Gamers so it would be cool if you guys could jump over to the other side and come along for the ride. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 42 Posted May 17, 2007 I'm not interested. Petro's not doing anything for me that makes me want to join. I'd rather play StarCraft 2 than UAW. Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted May 17, 2007 I'm at CNCNZ because I love the community. If I played games anymore, I'd probably be interested in UAW. Share this post Link to post
Mario 0 Posted May 17, 2007 i have signed up but i havent posted there or here much mostly due to lazyness Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted May 17, 2007 Well, the real reason we're curious is because Petro-Gamer has thousands and thousands of page views a day, yet for whatever reason, there's not a single member that signs up. Here at CNCNZ, we have a new member 12 hours or so (whether it be a bot or an actual member) Share this post Link to post
mormreed 0 Posted May 17, 2007 I made an account but like TSBO said this is my comfort zone, it even took me a bit to get used to being over here and I'm not a really hardcore CNC fan, I haven't been able to play CNC and I'm not a huge fan of the really earlier games in the series and I'm becoming more a fan of games like APB and Renegade even Share this post Link to post

I haven't been able to play any CNC games cause most of them broke. I can't afford to get the C&C: The Decade pack and even if I could, I don't have a DVD drive which will make me have to pay more. Anyway, I joined Petro's forums. Share this post Link to post

Petro-Gamers only gets about 100 unique hits per day. Its still early days though. Share this post Link to post
Mighty BOB! 5 Posted May 18, 2007 I hang out on the official Petroglyph forums. I don't really feel any need (yet)[probably because I'm not that big into Star Wars and currently EAW and FOC are Petro's only titles] to further spread to other Petro fansites and forums. (although I did like PetroDen while it was still up)[but I guess that was mostly a convenience thing, right next to CnCDen and the forums were the same]. Share this post Link to post

He's referring to the stats I told him about, non-unique hits for every page view be it the index, downloads or whatnot accounts for on average almost 9000 loaded pages a day. (although I did like PetroDen while it was still up)[but I guess that was mostly a convenience thing, right next to CnCDen and the forums were the same]. EaW/FoC are not Petro's only titles. Petro-Gamers is concentrating mostly on the new UaW, when some big news about EaW/FoC happens we post it. As for PetroDen and the convenience factor, the whole CNCNZ/Petro-Gamers set up is basically the same as what Lion had with CNC Den and PetroDen, and don't forget we have Lion our team He's referring to the stats I told him about, non-unique hits for every page view be it the index, downloads or whatnot accounts for on average almost 9000 loaded pages a day. Ahh I see. I tend not focus on these stats, but here's an interesting comparison. The amount of traffic used by both sites during April.... CNCNZ.com Petro-Gamers Two ends of scale right there. I don't like focusing on the number of hits and stats to much though, but I would like see them (for Petro-Gamers) jump up a bit more. My only conclusion right now is the the Petro community is only just beginning and is nowhere as large as the C&C community. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 18, 2007 That is the amount of traffic CNCNZ sees in a month? Thats rather impressive. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 302 Posted May 18, 2007 That was just for April. It jumped up with the release of C&C 3. Its not like that every month. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted May 18, 2007 Well it's a fact that since I started my focus in April on Petro-gamers and the news has increased ten fold, the traffic to Petro-gamers has seemingly tripled. There's a lot of work to be done there, but I am well and truly committed to the site and will see it rise. I wouldn't call it impossible, but I personally want to see Petro-gamers become even more popular than CNCNZ. Hopefully when the new community manager comes in, I want to try and continue where myself and SageKing left off. I for one hope he has the commitment and dedication the new guy has is just as good. Cos he will be seeing a lot of me. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted May 19, 2007 My only conclusion right now is the the Petro community is only just beginning and is nowhere as large as the C&C community. Well yah, Petro has only got EaW out and I think it was a good game when it came out, but there was no "keep on playing it" appeal. At least for me and even my friend who is a hardcore SW fan. C&C also has so many games under it's belt. btw: Why doesn't CNCNZ.com ever host other C&C mods and stuff? It'd take out too much space and all that or just don't find it necessary? I also mean like bigger mods, not little sound replacements and the like. Share this post Link to post
Mighty BOB! 5 Posted May 19, 2007 Wait, new community manager? What? Kevin left? Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted May 19, 2007 yeah, his last day was yesterday, look at petro-gamers for the news. Share this post Link to post
