Then you don't have any codec packs installed. I can play just about anything with WMP, WMC and VLC.

It's simply better.

Even the latest version of WMP doesn't play high quality .avi for some reason, Winamp does without a problem..

Foobar for music.

VLC Media Player for video.

 

Both really light, nothing fancy, no special graphical effects or anything like that, but they do their job just fine. Especially foobar is what WinAmp used to be; a light-weight, stripped down version of an MP3 player.
