Zero Hour and Generals Map Compatability

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried to use a skirmish map that was created for Generals with Zero Hour?

I'm curious as to whether they are directly compatible OR if you have to load the map into the new WorldBuilder and resave it.

TIA

Page 38 of the Zero Hour manual basically says...

Maps created with the World Builder included with Zero Hour can not be used in C&C Generals. However, maps made in C&C Generals can be imported into the World Builder for Zero Hour.

So you can't use your older Generals maps in Zero Hour, they need to converted first.

I converted all but one map with the new WB and they seem to work fine. Plus you can add the new buildings and units into the map as well. 8)

The conversion is pretty easy. Some things aren't in ZH (like objects or textures) that were in Gen, but it's not that big of a deal.

Has anyone noticed that the ZB World Builder is a lot buggier than the original??

Sorry Osey I had to take the map down because of this e-mail I got about it.

the 'new' map isn't Zero Hour compatible, the

new skirmish players are missing (at least 8 of 9).

Just open an old map in WBZH and choose File  Save As. It will then be saved in your personal ZHMaps folder

also, i see a Missing in front of my custom maps. why is this?

Clear the "Map Name" field in the "Map Settings" Window (Open from Edit  Edit Map Settings...)

thanks... got it to work. now I'm trying to figure out how to edit the skirmish AI... i noticed a skirmish.scb in the Data/Scripts folder but when i import it, it comes out all scrambled. the China AI goes into the GLA player, etc... know how to fix this? or know of any sites which have complete AI scripts?

I said that as a guess . Someone with some scripting knowledge can give a better answer.

dwaynek, you could just make your Zero Hour map and use the default ZH AI, its much improved from Generals.

Sonic, yes, the ZH AI is better but I've made some custom maps with lots of resources and as a result, the human players are better equipped to defend themselves and the current AI only sends small attack teams. i want to change this to send larger attack waves.

i could do this with the regular Generals AI because the AI data was stored in the Data/Scripts folder and all i needed to do was import this.

unfortunately in ZH, when i did the same thing, it came in all messed up (China AI went into the GLA player, GLA into USA etc) and some scripts actually turned up invisible (they were active but didn't show up in Worldbuilder)... so that has frustrated me.

Too add the default ZH AI, all you have to do is load up the map in worldbuilder, click EDIT, click EDIT PLAYER LIST, click ADD SKIRMISH PLAYERS at the bottom, click OK. Save the map, and fire it up. :D

Yep I noticed that to...don't know why..maybe it's to prevent us from making minor changes and release it as our script? who knows..Maybe I'll know a way around..... :?

Editing is real a pain in the a*!

I started on my own AI with Generals. The problem is (I think not really sure) once you've created one script (doesn't matter for which player) the AI won't use the standard AI anymore. THis means you have to create scripts for anything  for ALL players

Another problems with ZH is the fact that you now have :!: twelve :!: armies instead of 3 in Generals.

This is also the problem you'll encouter when you import RVMECH's AHAI cause it's designed for Generals. It will give AI to the standard Sides only not the Generals. And it will not use any of the new types of units and structures...so for the moment it's better to use the standard AI
