Roundtable Discussion #7 - April 2008 C&C Modding Special

Recommended Posts

Its Roundtable Discussion time again. And rather than cover the news topics like we have done in past months, this month its a Command & Conquer Modding Special, all the questions are based around modding. We have assembled a few of the best known people in the modding community to participate on the panel for this special Roundtable.

The points about compiled mods is interesting. I tend to agree with whoever it was that said we should go back to the Generals/BFME open modding. That's how I learned to do a lot of things modding wise that I couldn't figure out myself, by analysing others' code and trying to redevelop the techniques used myself.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but many of you asked for modding related questions in the Roundtables, we do one devoted completely to modding an no one here seems to care. How odd

I think it was the most interesting roundtable discussion so far... but I'm very suspicious person to do this kind of comparison this time :P

I agree that it is becoming harder for new modders to get into modding because of the great advancements in gaming technology. It's far more complicated and time consuming now to make a good mod.

Sonic - perhaps the lack of response is an indication that people think the same as me... we like to play mods, but we really don't understand what makes them tick. This round table was very technical, interesting on a mechanical level, but of a subject we can't comment on.

When I clamored for a Modding round-table - this was an unexpectedly direction.

Obviously not enough big explosions!!!

;)

Do we have yet a comprehensive, centralised web directory/list of C&C mods?

I'm talking more than a portfolio of mods from a 'studio' so to speak.
