  1. Actually yea When cruisers shoot at AI helicopters doing the constant up and down landing on normal ground, the projectiles seem to get eaten. Like the projectiles will just miss as the helicopter lifts off, but the projectiles don't seem to hit the ground and do damage and the damage explosion shps and sounds are missing. When an AI opponent is killed in skirmish, there is no longer a coloured text displayed at the top left of the screen saying "computer defeated". In fact there is no text at all. Just a couple other things. Is it possible to have a version of FunkyFr3shs online match thing made just against the computer? So If I hit skirmish from your launcher, instead of the default RA1 AI skirmish screen, it would be a slightly different version of the CnCNet client; ie without the chat area and ready buttons. I miss the map preview that was ingame in the PSX version. Also could either of you get it to work with mono, winetricks has failed me I would have a poke myself, but perhaps someone is willing to make a PSX icons mod? I think its really just the ore silo that is different, but it really annoys me the DOS version is some alpha silo. Will there be any more AI enhancements at all? I realise this would break online compatibility, but the AI is so dull. And in terms of that, all the changes that you made but didn't include because they break online compatibility, will there be an 'option' to use them, so we who only play the AI can enjoy all the changes? Or what is the situation with all that again
  2. Ah ok. Well perhaps another bug(?). On soviet mission 3, where you have to kill the spy, I almost certainly remember the spy being coloured red, but in my version he is blue.
  3. Well its up to you but imho if you could make it smaller for hires that would be great. The dog is the same size in both, so while its fairly proportional in lores, the dog is the same size as an entire man in hires Also, are you still looking for saves for the entire campaign?
  4. I used the movies installer to install the extra movies after I got the game working. When I went into game, it had reset a bunch of my options again. Its odd. Like today I went into options from booting up my laptop and again half the options were missing. The resolution etc was fine, but things multiplayer settings were randomly reset. Some ok, others, like no bases, starting money at 0 etc. It seems random in what resets. Sometimes the options to choose the maps will reset to empty and ill blindly start a skirmish with no maps causing a crash lol This is the lores. It looks like the same shp is used in both from what I can see, with this ship scaled to lores better. Were you testing the OT harvesting code? I noticed OTs would travel to the nearest ore patch after a time regardless where you sent them to mine. Would have worked well if the OTs would discern between a thin cell of ore (from a nearly empty mine) and a fat cell of ore to stop mining empty mines close to the base. EDIT: Tried the new zip. Can't open the options with the button. Game is in original windowed mode, but cant even test online because mouse disappears after a while. Can't launch the game with skirmish or anything. Will have another look. EDIT 2: Redownloaded the entire thing worked. No OOS online

  6. Well after a bunch of fannying about I got it to run nicely and even worked out how to change the desktop Icon that Wine creates to run the game under mono. I'll make a tutorial for it anyway. Iran can update his page with that and your recommendation to use winetrecks dotnet20 Here are the hires dogs. They are bigger than the infantry, EDIT: Just installed the movies after. It reset most of my options. EDIT 2: Been playing on-line - I seem to OOS when my REF is done
  7. The instructions are a little unclear for the wine install. Last time it took me ages to figure out that you don't select a library from the 'New override for library:' dropdown box but simply type the name of the dll file into the blank combobox and hit add. EDIT: Got it running eventually. - Mono is not installed on Ubuntu 13.04 by default - You have to install mono-compete (or you get the error "The assembly mscorlib.dll was not found or could not be loaded.") - You have to navigate to the .wine folder first then locate the installed PortableRA folder - Run using the command "mono RedAlertLauncher.exe". EDIT 2: Seems to have some funky functionality on wine/mono/ubuntu -Detect resolution gives an 'incorrect' resolution of 2732 x 1536 *Ah this is due to my 4 workspaces (should be 1366 x 768) -The OK button only seems to save input from that tab, and not all (perhaps replace with an 'apply' button) -Can't replicate, but changing certain settings resets the saved settings or defaults many to nothing (I think running the game first without using the options, resets to the ancient settings) I think I will make a 'newbies guide to PortableRA installation on Ubuntu 13.04' in a few days

  10. This would be a nice extra for Irans patch, albeit with original explosions and flames. Funny, never noticed the horse dogs before
  11. Generals in my eyes wasnt a CnC game at the time, but then that game convinced me how deeply flawed CnC games were. Now I totally love that game. I even liked RA3 for the same principle. Retreating units returning fire, supply docks with fixed money and harvest rates, symmetrical maps, unit production from individual buildings etc etc all things that wasn't CnC in my eyes, but now I think as mandatory in an RTS. The new C&C seems to build on all those aspects while keeping a more simple feel (single income type, no unit limit, infantry squishing, garrisoning, superweapons) so I think I will like it. Cant say Generals, RA3 or this new C&C is 'classic' or 'true' C&C gameplay, but IMHO, RA1, C&C gold, RA2 etc etc are nostalgic for a reason. The gameplay can still be fun in a pinch but its now extremely limited compared to the likes of Generals. For me however, it was the music ( <3 frank ), cutsceens and lore that made C&C what it was...

    I actually do think the yuri likeness is pretty close, you just need to Photoshop out the eyebrows too The bald head, facial hair and unique head gear could certainly be a nod to RA2. Maybe they used Yuri as a base in the beginning of a drawingboard, as it has been noted before they recycle art assets.
  13. Sounds good to me. I use it for skirmish personally. Glad to see all this progress, its much more than I imagined. Even happier to hear of the collaborations between everyone, I think that'll be the true success of all this.

    Portable C&C

    Any update on this? I have quite an itch to play C&C 95 the whole way through like I did with RA1, but I really got spoiled by Irans longer sidebar with mouse-wheel scrolling.
  15. Ah. Yea, I would love that feature! Is there no possibility of twisting your arm to add it as an option to your online lobby? Just because the option is there, doesn't mean people would necessarily use it on those kinds of maps. Even a checkbox for a 'predefined' growth rate. I just played another mega map 7 AI brawl and again the money has just died before I have teched up...
  16. Is this the same logic as when you loose your own CY (and find a MCV) later? Do you keep your previous researched tech? I'd just love to see the shared buildings head aches done away with. Nothing more pissy than trying to capture an enemy AIs WF even if you have the CY.

    Free alternatives to classic games

    I release you have purged the thread due to previous reviews, but do you have any other free / recently reverse engineered old school games? Currently I only know of C&C95, RA1, Dune 2000 and warzone 2100 (which you list) - which all took old freeware/abandonware games and made them run on modern systems in high resolution with fixes.
  18. If your patch becomes the 'defacto' patch for online play, could you use this RULES.INI value somehow? Would that avoid the desync issue?
  19. Can you make a mulitplayer option for 'fast ore regrowth'. Im sick of short matches with large players/AI. Maybe x3 growth? Would be enough for 7 AIs on a small map. And Im sure others would like the option too.

  21. I will test them, but I am unable to do so for a week or two - if you do not mind that time frame. Or is it simply the savegames (at which point in the missions?) you require? Also, while at it, how do you enable the DOS icons mod? I would like to test the missions in full nostalgia would that require a recent build?
