Hello Everyone, I've just went out and got 2 copies of C&C First Decade. Yuri's Revenge just goes to a black screen for about a minute and then takes me back to internet explore. No error message or anything. Can someone please help me? Tied this both on Windows 7 and 8. And both laptops have Intel Graphics 3000.
I am trying to run a number of older titles, inlcuding Red Alert 3 + Exp, and C&C 3 Tiberium Wars + Exp. Each time I try to run the games after installation (I purchsed them through steam), I get a crash message saying more or less "Please make sure you have Directx 9 or higher installed. Drivers updated, and everything enabled." The most frustrating aspect is that each time I attempt to try it out, it not only crashes, but lingers on and I cannot end the task. I see it hovering in the task manager, "RedAlertLauncher - 100kb" and because of that I cannot close steam nor attempt to run the game again untill I have restarted the computer making test runs even more tedious. I am running Windows 7 64 bit AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor 2.70 Ghz 8 Gigs of Ram With a Ati Radeon HD 5570 Graphics Card I've tried everything from installing DirectX 9 (W7 has 11 pre-installed), to re-installing it, as well as uninstalling and re-installing the games. I've whiped the computer clean to eliminate errors and old files, with no avail. I checked that all the drivers are up to date. I am running short on ideas as to what to try next. If anyone could help me figure this out it would be greatly appreciated.
A new blog has been posted on the Official C&C Site that covers the basics to get both C&C Generals and its expansion, Zero Hour, running in modern operating systems like Windows 7, you can find it right here. It's reasonably detailed and should help most people. However, the same procedure has been posted on our forums for nearly 3 years. So for those of you reliving Generals and Zero Hour, or playing it for the first time ever, you now have two helpful guides to choose from. Click here for the guide on the Official C&C Site, or check the one posted in our forums.
Updated: 23-01-2012 Recently (12 August 2009) I installed from TFD, Generals Zero hour for some old good fights after i saw in you tube the Generals Trailer 1 at E3 that made me wanna revisit that game. Now i am running Windows 7 x64 and after installation the program didn't run. so here is what you should do to make it run Make sure you have the latest Direct-X 9.0c installed, you can Google it or get it from Microsoft make sure you have windows 7 service pack 1 at least installed! make sure you have the LATEST Graphic Drivers installed for your VGA Card and that meets the game's requirements! make sure that both Generals and Zero hour its on its latest patch version! TFD should be updated! (must be a clean installation no other MODS etc!) into your "user" directory (named with your user account yeah you know there where you see the folder my pictures, my music etc) in there go to "My Documents" well there after trying to run the game you would see a Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data folder. open it. right click and create a new empty .TXT file and rename it options.ini (make sure you see the extension .txt and you don't end up having a stupid file named options.ini.txt!) if you dont know how to see the files extension in windows 7, Google it or get an Xbox to play now copy the following lines inside and Save it! **warning in the resolution section put your resolution********* ***also some LOD settings may not work with your VGA card! remove those lines if you cant run the game!**** AntiAliasing = 1 BuildingOcclusion = yes CampaignDifficulty = 0 DynamicLOD = yes ExtraAnimations = yes GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0 Gamma = 50 HeatEffects = yes IPAddress = 0.0.0.0 IdealStaticGameLOD = Low LanguageFilter = false MaxParticleCount = 5000 MusicVolume = 55 Resolution = 1366 768 Retaliation = yes SFX3DVolume = 79 SFXVolume = 71 ScrollFactor = 60 SendDelay = no ShowSoftWaterEdge = yes ShowTrees = yes StaticGameLOD = Custom TextureReduction = 0 UseAlternateMouse = yes UseCloudMap = yes UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no UseLightMap = yes UseShadowDecals = yes UseShadowVolumes = yes VoiceVolume = 70 then Right Click on your Generals / Zero Hour shortcut (if you don't have make one), in Widows 7 most games make there shortcuts into the "GAMES" menu in Start Menu and in the Compatibility Tab just select Windows XP SP3 and click "Run as administrator" option too (if you are not an admin) that's it go inside change your settings and restart the game. other alternative simpler solution: windows 7 x64 SP1 (service pack1 is crucial!) clean install of the game and patch to latest versions! change compatibility of the main .exe to Windows XP sp3 (so that the main menu shellmap works ok) run the game for 1st time and during this run go to setting and change everything you want! (besides resolution) then exit game and locate the options.ini i told you before in your Documents\Generals Zero Hour data\ folder change there only the resolution line to your screen's native. (ex Resolution = 1366 768) save and rerun the game. you are done! Have fun that's an order!
