Schoolboy hacker Omar Khan who upped his grades faces 38 years in jail

Recommended Posts

It could be a long time before Omar Khan goes to college: as long as 38 years, according to Orange County prosecutors, who have arrested and charged the 18-year-old student with breaking into his prestigious high school and hacking into computers to change his test grades from Fs to As.

If convicted on all 69 counts, including altering and stealing public records, computer fraud, burglary, identity theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy, Mr Khan could spend almost four decades in prison.

desperate people do desperate things... but goddam that is a long time... just for some grades c_C; a couple of years would be enough... but half his life wasted away in jail? for a grade change? screw that :\

I'd say 5 year though. Their sentence is way too long.

Otherwise it's just so scumbag who did nothing with his time and realized that it in fact mattered.Bwaahhh boohoo.

Remember, he hasn't even gone to trial yet, and that's IF he gets convicted AND gets maximum sentence for every charge

How did he get all them Fs if he managed to hack the computer system?

its pretty easy... if you had that access he had, along with others who helped plan the changes... it can be down. And just because people score low in something dont mean they suck at it. Some classes I took just bored the hell out of me. So i just didnt care what happen. Sure I could have aced them, but when your mind wonders off to other things, you start not to care. besides i dont think you can score a person with the letter system we have now.

also usually final grades are done by 2/3 coursework... if you're like me you totally suck ass at coursework and ace the tests but still get painfully low grades cos the work makes up 2/3 of the class T-T thus the reason i totally flumped out of school >.>; eh go figure. i'm boned in future life XD but still, 38 years is way too much. but i really doubt that he'll get the maximum sentence... probably just get 6 months probation with civic duties X3; or maybe because this made the news they might up it to 5 years tops to prove a point o.O unless he's REALLY unlucky and they decide to give him the full sentence to freak everyone out so much. but we're not living in a dictatorship yet so i doubt that'll happen >.>;

I think he would have actually had to have been recieving stolen weapons or broke into the Department of Defense for the charges to be anywhere near as harsh as they are made out to be.

Still the prosecutors will try and try to get those maxes and if they do, 38 years... But yea, that probably won't happen but he will probably wind up with 5 years or some bull**** =/

How did he get all them Fs if he managed to hack the computer system?

Just because you're not good at school doesn't mean you're not smart; just lazy. I make borderline Cs in my computer science class (waste of class, was bull**** CS class) and yet I could probably run loops around most the kids (and the teacher..) in there if I looked 5 minutes on a website or wikischool.

yah like i said i really doubt they'd give him the max penalty... it's just too insanely harsh. i bet he gets 6 months community service or something like that with a major warning and a big blotch on his permanent record o.o
