Quick SecuROM Fix for Kane's Wrath 1.01

Apparently the release of the 1.01 patch for Kane's Wrath caused a minor but annoying problem. After you install the patch you may discover that you can no longer right click on desktop short cuts that lead to .exe files, this then results in Windows Explorer freezing and/or crashing. This issue was reported in a post on the Official C&C Forums. The good news is SecuROM have issued a fix for this issue.

 

If you have downloaded and installed the 1.01 update you may have an issue when you right click on a .exe file or program icon.

 

To resolve this:

1. Download and open the SecuROM Command and Conquer file.
2. Drag and drop the cnc3ep1.dat file to your desktop.
3. Double-click on My Computer.
4. Double-click on Program Files.
5. Double-click on Electronic Arts.
6. Double-click on Command & Conquer 3 Kane's Wrath.
7. Double-click on RetailExe.
8. Double-click on 1.1.
9. Right-click on the cnc3ep1.dat file and click rename.
10. Rename this file to cnc3ep1.dat.OLD.
11. Right-click on the cnc3ep1.dat file on your desktop and click copy.
12. Right-click anywhere in the 1.1 folder not on a file and click paste.

Once this is done explorer will no longer crash.

From what I can tell this issue doesn't effect everyone but if you have been having problems since updating to patch 1.01 for Kane's Wrath this should sort it out for you.

Well I will download this patch. Just recently internet explorer would crash and try and start/open 100's of new search windows... and the odd behaviour in general but I never noticed what caused it or when it happened...

I did notice this last week but I thought it was my computer crapping out again.

This happen to me twice like a week ago. But its not happening no more.

I will still download it just to make sure.

 

Weird, when i started downloading Explorer crashed. So i had to restart my computer.

When i got back i downloaded again and it did work...Im just saying

That sounds like another problem to me. As in not related this SecuROM fix.

Strange bug, never seen something like this before...
