Windows Shuts Down but PC Won't Switch Off

Recommended Posts

Here is an odd problem with my new PC that I recently put together. When I tell the system to shut down and power off. Windows goes through its process and shuts down fine but it never actually powers off. The screen goes blank (like it should), I can the hear the hard drive power down but the PSU, CPU fan and all case fans remain powered on. So it just sits there in that state, the only way to get it to turn off is to flick the switch on the power point.

I've checked options in the bios under the power menu but anything I change makes no difference. I've also checked Windows own power management options, again no luck.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I actually get the same problem - but only when you select Reboot...

I've had the same thing happen to me, once or twice in the past. But it usually just "goes away" by itself. So I never really looked into it.

Its become a random issue, sometimes it shuts down and the PSU switches off, like it should do. Every now and then it just sits there with the fans spinning.... Very strange. I've discovered if I hold the power button down for about 5 seconds it switches off.

Yeah holding the power button down will shut it off even in windows etc... many a crash has been reset by that.

i dont know if you have found a solution to your problems, but beside checking your control panel and power setting under screensaver tab, make sure you use the latest BIOS for your MOBO your cables are all ok plged in and grounded and that you BIOS Power Settings have turned ON the APM support!

otherwishe you need new mobo, or psu propably. :(
