Google Chrome

Google have released their own browser, Google Chrome. Who has tried it.

 

 

Its small, fast loading etc.... but I'll stick with Firefox 3.0. As far as I can tell Google Chrome uses the Mozilla/Gecko engine anyway.

It looks cool, and I hear nice things. But it doesn't have my extensions or add ons..

After I took that screen shot above I discovered I couldn't scroll the page up using the quick virtual scroll on my laptop's touchpad. Plus its way if handling bookmarks needs improving.

 

As soon as I installed Chrome I wanted to customise it to work more like Firefox does, then I thought to myself what's the point, just use Firefox.

I like it but it's not polished (it's a beta) enough for me to make it my main. I'll definitely be monitoring it, seems to handle javascript WAY better.

whatever the browser is, I'll be happy if they don't user their own standards in interpreting web pages. As for google chrome, I have no interest on it other than being listed as one of the browsers for web testing.

I have a finely tuned FF3 with FireFTP/ChatZilla/Web Dev Toolbar and IE7 with the IE7 Pro addon installed. I see no reason to use Chrome. Besides, it'll go the way of Google Talk eventually; a lot of hype, a beta and death.

i'm completely inexperienced on the subject... i've tried neither xD; but unless chrome turns out to be frigging awesome, i'm pretty much gonna ignore it... it has to go some to beat firefox (even if firefox randomly crashes and fails and doesn't work properly at times)

I tried it, have not used FF ever since. The reason? It does not crash every minute like FF2 did after I wanted to check out FF3. Thank you, Goggle Inc, and **** off Mozilla Corp.!

You people with FF problems just suck at troubleshooting.

 

I don't really have a reason to switch to Chrome, much less while it is in beta. Plus I don't like the idea that Google could potentially use it to target ads at me based on my surfing habits. (Well, any more than they can already do that. :/)

What troubles should have been shot at after FF3 gave me crashes for no reason and then infected FF2 as well? I deinstalled FF3 and FF2, reinstalled in the same folder. Then in a different folder. Scanned for viruses and malware. Updated flash and java. Updated FF2. Created a fresh, clean profile. Nothing simply worked, FF2 kept crashing. And I did not even have any add-ons installed! Conclusion? FF3 messed up my system irrepairably, so that all FF versions after 2.0 crash randomly for no reason. Weird that Chrome does not even though it uses the same profile FF did.

FF3 isn't broken. Methinks it's a flaw in your system, rather then with FF3.

That's why FF2 started to crash right after I installed FF3, correct? Considering that before I have not had any issues with any FF version, eh? Believe me, in this case, there was -and is- nothing wrong with my system. If it wouldn't be an issue of FF, a re-install, respectively a clean profile should have solved the issue, but it didn't. Neither did any updates, virus-hunting or such. Pre-2.0 FF works though, if I remember correctly.

Still your system. I run FF3 on both machines, my mom runs FF3, my boyfriend runs FF3, my brother runs FF3 and that's just who I know personally. Doesn't account for the millions who run it flawlessy. So again, it's your end, not Mozilla.

That's not how it works, you know. Some programs are not programmed flawlessly, so they don't work with every hardware or software configuration. Like in this case. Or where Oblivion did not run when certain printers were involved

Thus, there's nothing I can do to get it work again, except cleaning the registry perhaps, but thanks to Chrome, I don't even have to. Even then, FF3 messing with FF2 is clearly not my rigs fault. That FF runs well almost on every machine accounts for nothing.

hmmph. i'm usually good at troubleshoot but FF3 just crashes for no reason at all sometimes... the first time i open it of the day (ie; clicking on a link someone has sent me) it takes forever to load and completely lags down my system. and sometimes it just randomly shuts down for no reason at all o.O; i haven't worked out why. i thought it might be the add-ons i use but everything worked fine on FF2... and all the add-ons work for FF3. but it's not like i'm even trying to use the add-ons, sometimes i'll click a link to a page and it'll just crash FF3 XDDD

If you haven't cleaned the registry properly, there is something to you and I say again, it is your end. Besides, send an error report to Mozilla to ensure further problems do not arise since you're right, nothing is flawless. BUT, I still highly doubt your hardware would be causing it to crash. Since software is so unpredictable, it's likely you did it to your own system. Hell, I bet you won the lottery and gummed it all up by running other apps while you were installing FF3.

I do nothing of that sort! And I sent an erorr report to Mozilla, alas they could not help me. Again, I accept that FF3 isn't compatible with my system, but that's still no explanation as of why it destroyed my perfectly stable FF2, too (Any version). If FF3 messes with my registry, that's neither my nor my system's fault.

You do realize that almost every application modifies the registry, don't you? Since FF3 works off of FF2, it will use the same set of registry keys if you update it. Quite likely you had an app running that interfered with Firefox's installer and it was unable to update the registry properly. FF3 would easily run if you weren't a stubborn idiot and accepted that you, unknowingly, caused it to blow up somewhere along the road. I refuse to believe that Firefox is incompatible with your configuration since millions of users run it without any issues whatsoever.

 

Anyway, there are a variety of registry cleaners available. My favorite is CCleaner. If there are any leftover keys, they will be properly removed and cleaned, which should allow Firefox to run smoothly again.
