I'm now into the space phase! I had to restart the damn civilisation phase, because it was just going no-where. Despite what some of you have said about it, I quite enjoyed that phase. My second time around proved rather easy, but I wasn't going to repent that time. And so I put an even more aggressive stance on, and swept the planet in under half hour! But I've found it the most enjoyable mode so far.

From what I've played of Space, I'm quite enjoying it. It's different, and sure, while it's been done before, it feels fresh. I think taking my time through this game is actually making me enjoy it more. Sure you could probably hammer through this game easily within 1 or 2 days tops which is rather crap for a game supposedly of this scope. But as I get into the home straight, I'm rather satisfied with what I've played.

i'm still in creature. i'm hardly playing it... it's not what i expected... luckily i didn't get my hopes up -too- high so i'm not that bothered. but i could really do with another game to play... i want an FPS or third person shooter... preferably one that is just mindless action. maybe one with a little horror but nothing so scary it's gonna give me an anxiety attack and kill me off o.O

From what I've heard, its a very shallow game. :|

Unfortunately it is. Spore can be summed up in one short sentence.

A collection of 4 mini-games and one pint sized (often confusing, poorly developed) final game, where you design and choose the content.

Sure, I've enjoyed it up to a certain point. But the space stage sucks. Imagine google maps with very limited options to navigate, and not having the ability to decipher where the hell you are on earth without passing your mouse over 1 of about 4000-10,000 dots to chose from. There's no nebulas, points of reference, or any clues as to where the hell things are without hovering your mouse over a particular solar system. The only clue you're given is an icon as to where your home system is. The interface in this mode is over complicated given you hardly use much of it, and there's just way too much mouse scrolling and navigating to do.... it makes you feel like a retarded dyslexic incapable of doing anything!

I've stopped playing now. I've had my worth. If you've heard of this game, you've got the idea of what it's about. Overall it's not a particularly fun or exciting game, and it comes to a head in the space stage by being almost unplayable.

Consider this post my review. Total score:

6/10 or more elaborately 6.3 out of 100

And how long was Spore in development for?

For those who are addicted to this game, there will probably be the 100 expansion packs and then Spore 2. Its The Sims franchise all over again

I knew from the beginning that this game will be innovative, but lack the basic gameplay.

I love you! Swat 4 is indeed super-sweet, the best tactical FPS ever made, imho!

Btw, Saracen: Got Spore today! (Lent it from a friend) I'll give it a spin in the next days, curious how I'll like it.

Edit: Meh. Collection of minigames, boring, confusing, empty. Graphics are poor. It's kind of cute and creative though, but still. Meh. Does anyone know wheter the EA download manager is needed? Since my little brother installed it, and I don't like any redundant program on my system.

Edit: Re-started the game as herbivore. Now that I know what I'm in for it's slightly more enjoyable. As harbivore, the game plays easier, too.

i've often considered getting SWAT 4 but i wasn't sure about it... hmmph. but i don't really like complex FPS's... i prefer stuff like star wars battlefront 1 + 2... where you're just stuck in a battle, everyone is doing their own thing and you have a vague goal to accomplish and you're left to do it how you choose o.o speaking of which i need to get battlefield 2142... i've got pretty much all the other ones in the series now xD the reason i didn't get that one previously is because it seems more long distance based. i prefer just running around with a rifle and taking out insane amounts of people one-on-one... maybe with a tank or car or sometimes even a plane or helicopter. but the modern and future ones are all airstrikes and mortars and things... there's no single combat involved :\

do not want demos >.> when i get around to it i'll go buy it or torrent it or something like that. probably buy x3; i'd rather have a nice packet and cd with a cd key that won't be being used by 50 other people xD but yah i'll do it when i have time... too many other things happening in my life right now o-o

So, how do you guys (that bought it) feel about Spore?

I thought it would be better than it was.....honestly, it felt more like 5 games bundled together than one game....I guess one reason is I'm not creative, so the creature creator was just "w/e" to me ;)

Anyone else?

Where's the "I downloaded it and didn't like, therefore I didn't buy it" option? ;)

yah you're right. it wasn't as good as i thought it would be. they amped it up too much in the advertising :\ it's a GREAT idea but they approached it the wrong way. and now no-one else can have a go at making the same game without looking like a copycat :\ lame...

there are some older god sim games... remember populous? that game was AWESOME it was the first leveling up society game i'd seen before and i played it all the time with my cousins ^_^

Maybe Spore will end up like the Sims and they'll update the gameplay with new features to make it better than it currently is.

To be honest... to do that they'd need to crank another 2 years of development out of it, while coming up with something innovative to make it special. And really since Will Wright has been tainted by corporate management, there is no innovation left at EA Maxis... cos let's face it, Spore is to innovation what Windows Vista is to XP.

It's not the lack of innovation that brings down Spore, it's the lack of solid and engaging gameplay. Btw: Sims? Innovation par excellence. Building houses especially is a feat.

hmmph. yah... i was disappointed by spore. but i'm still glad i got it first and played it... i may not play it again for a few years, but it's nice to know it's there on the shelf if i feel like experimenting and taking over the universe or whatever x3

I "just got it" today. And in about 4 or so hours ripped through all the stages and just go into space.

Its kinda, cool, and each stage ends just before you start to get bored with it. The custom aspects are nifty. I'll have to add a lot more of my own stuff in a second go through. ^_^

But I doubt I'd have a third go through, I imagine all that is cool about this game will be totally done over by the second play though... Eh. :(

In that you are correct...though the space stage is quite long...I never did get to playing much of it

sooner or later i will get around to playing the later stages... but creature stage really killed it for me. yah... definately after a second or third play there will be nothing left to do. unless you're willing to try every different evolution path to see the tiny differences that emerge... but i don't think any of us like the game THAT much x3;
