RA3 Unit Profile: Allies Mirage Tank

Recommended Posts

The Official Red Alert 3 Site has another unit profile for you to check out. Today we get a look at the Allies Mirage Tank. As always, this profile has a short in game video, concept art and extra information. Here is a sample....

normal_concept87.jpg

The name of the Mirage Tank is in reference to the effect caused by its on-board reactive camoscanner technology, which envelops the vehicle in a special camouflage field. To the naked eye, this makes the normally-muscular Mirage Tank resemble something common and mundane to its surroundings, be it a tree or a milk truck, or even a smaller object such as a lamp post. Even when under the scrutiny of a sophisticated scanning array, this makes the Mirage Tank altogether invisible. Consequently, the camoscanners enable Mirage Tank operators to blend into their environment, to elude enemy forces or stage an ambush... provided that they remain motionless and do not fire the main gun. These limitations are necessary to reduce heat signatures and conserve energy, as otherwise, enemy forces would be able to pick up the disguised Mirage Tank on short-range scan. The number of times camouflaged Mirage Tanks have successfully routed Soviet armor divisions continues to climb, to that point at which it no longer seems possible to keep accurate count of their successes (in part because Soviet ministers have now taken to blaming any accidents resulting in the destruction of their forces on Mirage Tank ambushes).

First of all, didn't Einstein invent the mirage tanks? He is supposed to be dead...

Secondly, the weapon:

Essentially a weaponized version of L.A.S.E.R. technology, the spectrum cannon focuses and amplifies light waves to form an extremely destructive (though short-ranged) burst of high-energy photons, which can cut through any known substance easily.

Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, I’m not sure how this is significant to their weapon description other than to make it sound more elaborate. However, since they have decided to call their spectrum weapon ‘essentially a … laser’, then I have a small problem with it… or a couple… ok, a few.

Problem #1: Lasers are not short range weapons like the mirage’s spectrum. There are indeed restrictions on the use of lasers within an atmosphere, but not this much.

Problem #2: Lasers do not make pretty colors while firing, this would indicate some sort of an intentional frequency fluctuation which would probably make their weapon less effective and serve no purpose except in appearance.

Problem #3: Lasers cannot ‘cut through any known substance easily.’ Seriously, they can’t.

Problem #4: Lasers do not reflect off their primary target to hit a nearby secondary target. If the laser hit a reflective surface, at such an accurate angle, and did manage to hit another target, the damage would be divided between the two targets.

so is it a habit for you to suck the life out of things?

i dont get how it exists either without einstein, and how its weapon is basically a prism cannon

Not a habit, I choose to do it.

Nmenth thanks for the lesson, but this Red Alert, it doesn't have to be accurate and obey the laws of science and physics or any other fancy technical term you can think of.

Oh yeah, its just a game ;)

I love using the gap generator. I will usually just spam mirage tanks and have 1 of them have the gap generator, then inactivate the gap generator and all the other mirage tanks pop up :) Works every time.

Einstein is dead in real life yet we still have the atom bomb...

Well, after seeing this. No wonder why my many 8-12 tengus got destroyed so easily by 2 or 3 Mirage tanks. Seriously, that's gotta hurt. :(

I know, and if I truly cared about pointing out every flaw in the Red Alert universe, it would probably take a full week just to write up.

The reason I correct these faction unit releases is because they took the time to actually describe them, which I would expect would adhere to a higher level of standards.

Nevertheless, don't think that I am seriously offended by their faults, they could say whatever they wanted there and it wouldn't affect my plans to purchase the game.
