Music 4 Games Interview with the RA3 Music Team

Recommended Posts

Music 4 Games have posted a new interview with the Red Alert 3 music team, that includes Frank Klepacki of course. The interview makes for some interesting reading. And from this interview we have learnt that Hell March 3 is going to be an epic fully orchestrated theme recorded with a 4-piece rock band, and Frank has also composed Grinder 2. A sequel to the original Grinder that appeared in Red Alert 2. Here is a small sample from the article.

The score for Red Alert 3 includes over 100 minutes of live recorded music and features a diverse array of musical genres and styles encompassing epic rock themes; 'Exploring Music' in the vein of Mission Impossible or James Bond, themed to the location of the missions; dark and dramatic 'Threat Music,' and various rock music treatments for the 'Combat Music' with a different style for each of the three factions; Soviet Combat (Dark, Gothic), Allied Combat (American style punk), Japan Combat (J-Rock hybrid music mixing Big Beat, Rock and Techno).

Tim Wynn, the principal composer for Red Alert 3 and producer of the live recording sessions at Skywalker Sound, sums up the soundtrack, "This score was quite an undertaking. The styles are all over the map. Fans of the Command and Conquer: Red Alert Series are in for a real treat. It amplifies the great scores of the prior games and takes them to a different level."

When it was announced that Frank Klepacki would be involved with Red Alert 3, fans around the world rejoiced since he created some of the most memorable soundtracks for the Command & Conquer franchise. For Red Alert 3, Frank has written a fully orchestrated rendition of his signature ‘Hell March’ theme recorded with a 4-piece rock band alongside The Skywalker Symphony Orchestra and Choir at the Skywalker Sound Scoring Stage on August 2nd – 3rd.

I've always considered the music in games, especially C&C, to be very important and its looks like (or is that sounds like) EA is going deliver a memorable soundtrack for Red Alert 3. Anyway, click here for the entire interview.

I think the fact that there's a team of composers will be greatly reflected in the quality and style of the soundtrack. This is gonna be great. :D

Either way the RA3 soundtrack is going to be better than the uninspiring and lacklustre C&C 3 soundtrack.

I would hope so... I was rather disappointed with that 'music', but without our Frank, what more could you expect?

What could be worse than that? RA3 will destroy what little credibility the C&C3 soundtrack has.

Let's hope they will have tracks like Industrofunk to mix things up a bit.

I'm glad they are making a sequel to 'Grinder' :)

I wish so much they would make a sequel to 'Phat Attack' (from YR), that song is so awesome!!

Hell march is the only track I know by 'name', I'll have to look-up the songs and see which one is grinder.

Still great article, great anticipation.

Grinder is the theme that plays in the main menu of RA2, it was used in RA3 Alpha that we played at the summit in June, I believe it was still used in the Beta as well. Since there is a Grinder 2 it will probably be used as the menu music in RA3 retail.
