MecanicalMan 0 Posted January 19, 2009 One thing is always a problem when moving mixed combat groups, the faster, lighter support (i.e. anit air/infantry) streaks ahead of the tanks and artillery, and gets creamed by the enermy armour, while leaving said tanks and artillery at the mercy of air and troops. The same story happens at sea, as faster AA and AS ships leaves the the battleships undefended. Its all well and good being able to set a army up in a battle line at the destination, but why not let this line be able to move in this formation at one speed? Red Alert 1 has it, hell! even GENERALS has it, so why not RA3 and C&C3TW/KW? Share this post Link to post

Luk3us 63 Posted January 20, 2009 Err, you select the group, hold the left mouse button then drag it out where your intending to go and make the formation look as you like, then release, and everyone will move at the same speed, but not in formation, they don't do that till they get to the spot. PurpleGaga27 40 Posted February 17, 2009 (edited) I believe that EA had made a new type of formation move rather than the old traditional one. I knew that part since playing C&C3. Of course what Luk3us said is partially right: You select the group, hold the left mouse button then drag it out where your intending to go and make the formation look as you like, then release, and everyone will move at the same speed, but not in formation, they don't do that till they get to the spot. The new form of formation move only happens to a group of units moving to that area and line up perfectly in the spot. I don't really see a group of units moving at the same speed when I did this in C&C3/KW. The old traditional form of formation move in RA1 is selecting a group of units, press "F" on the keyboard and the front-runner unit going in that direction regardless of speed makes all other units go at the same speed as the unit in front. Generals/Zero Hour also used the old traditional form of formation move by the same key but it didn't work well. Maybe it's about time we already knew there are two types of formation move. BlyTwo 0 Posted February 18, 2009 In the C&C3+> formation move, it is the most basic thing ever. You do the formation and all of the units scramble their way (at their individual speeds) to the destination as if you individually moved them. Although with a normal move order, they move into a square formation anyways. But in C&C to RA2 they just all moved as close to the target location as possible. And for a lot of people the formation move is hold both buttons. Planning mode is handy for fancy maneuvers etc, but really, just take your time with the assault force and be strategic, not just "all forces go to the middle of their base!" And no real need for a uniform movement order. Share this post Link to post
