Upgrade Time

Recommended Posts

As you recall I posted about a new machine, well that's a long way off so I've decided to go the upgrade route for my current machine, which is right over here.

I'm upgrading the power supply, video card and RAM for this run and that's all I really need to do since my CPU is running great though I may get that another fan.

Anyway, I got the PNY Tech nVidia 9600GT for the video and a Zalman cooler so I can keep it nice and cool even while intense gaming.

Here's my PSU, a 550W Antec. Not fancy looking but it will do the job and I'll get the bang for the buck.

And I picked up 4GB of G.SKILL RAM for the memory. No sense in getting 8 even though my motherboard supports it. I know it's old but that's what's designed for my board so I got it. Not like it was all that expensive.

Should be rollin' epic on RA3 now.

Sounds good. I would have gone for a slightly better graphics card, like an XFX 8800 GT.

Nothing wrong with the 9600GT. My EVGA 9600GT handles everything I've thrown at it. Besides my 9600GT was free so I can't complain either way ;)

I was on a budget. I did well for that I think.

I recently got a GeForce 260XTX and a 650 PSU from Akasa. Plus I got 2GB of extra Kingston memory :)

RA3 runs on Ultra High, 8AA now without a sweat :P

No, he means something like Crysis :P Really, I have an ASUS 9600GT and it handled Crysis Warhead just damn fine. Really, I'm just playing Team Fortress 2 right now anyways so it doesn't matter too much.

I'm not spending that much on this machine. I don't need to. I go budget and power. Not top of the line but still good as hell for the money. I like my pocketbook staying fat while my rig goes up a notch.

Parts are in. Will be performing the operations on Friday evening after work.
