Windows Can Be Annoying

Recommended Posts

I've been a happy user of Windows since the days of Windows 95. The only time I thought Windows was worthless was when Microsoft released Windows Millennium Edition, it was nothing but a retail service pack for Windows 98. Anyway, both my main desktop PC and laptop run Vista, and once again I'm very happy with it. But there are a couple of things that really bother me, and it's been the same way in all editions of Windows over the years, its the fact the damn OS can't remember your settings like View Settings for folders while browsing. I want medium sized icons but no Windows just seems to pick whatever view settings it wants and random. The other thing is the Notification Area. You know those small icons near the Task Bar clock. You can tell Windows what ones to display and what ones to hide, that's great.... but like the View Settings for folders it magically forgets those settings as well. So what is the point of have the ability to customise these parts of Windows if the aforementioned operating system consistently fails to remember such settings?

Windows 98--->Windows XP--->Windows 7

Planning to change to Windows 7 once its out.

As a XP user, yea I'm aware of some stupid problems as what you said sonic, I also encountered another bug as well. Sometimes when I want to delete folders it comes out this error "Error Deleting File or Folder" with stupid reasons that "It is being used by another person or program" even if its an empty folder. Have to restart the PC just to delete that stupid folder.

I've never had any issues with how windows displays my folders, I set what I want when I install, then hit apply to all folders and we are done. Its only annoying when individual programs go browsing through my folders then it just turns into an epic mess.

I've got Vista on one comp and XP on another. When going back to XP I really miss the start search function; looking for shortcuts is for chumps!

explorer.exe is attached to the folder and won't let go of it. It's annoying but it's not a stupid reason. Besides, a little cmd later and the folder is gone. :P

Anyhow. I actually don't have any problems with the Folders Views or anything like that. Windows keeps my settings in tact really well. If something goes awry like it did earlier with dialog boxes showing file names out of order, I used CCleaner to reset it. Bam. Fixed.
