New Poll: What Will the Next C&C Game Be?

Recommended Posts

QFT, especially people prefers the beautiful & more original boxarts.

The "Don't judge a book by its cover" phrase was mostly meant for nearly many things, but definitely NOT for games or movies or softwares. If a game is so good, but when the cover is so bad, do you want to accept it? Like I did mention, if I have a very good software but the cover is horrible, I rather just keep the disc while the ugly box can just throw away.

Not just that, it apply to all products too. From simple groceries such as canned soup and breakfast cereals to hardware such as various brands of graphics cards, the packaging plays an important role and may influence the decision of consumers.

You got a point, Mal, as a former design student, I knew all these matters count. After all, if a new product would to come out, you may never know whether it'll be good or not, so the cover will be judged first. Outside first then the inside. But as for games or movies or graphics, I'm sure it's obvious there will be a beta display. But overall, everything else like groceries or perfumes you said, surely the cover will be the key thing to look at first, then the inside will be judged after that.

Just for the info, that "judging book by its cover" idiom isn't valid anymore in this part of the discussion. It's more about "first impression".

You guys are all crazy :P

Good design is favorable (and everyone digs aesthetic looks), but not a sale-decision for me. For newcomers it could though, no obejctions there. However, good art can be misleading too, and that somehow wasn't taken into account in this discussion.

Silverthorn: So, uh, you'll keep your discs without covers? How does that look? :P

gben: That's the thing. I organize my cases by putting them onto each other, thus I never see the cover.

There is a logical reason for that, the new C&C box arts are not good enough to be misleading.

Not being mentioned does not necessarily mean no one understood that was true.

Yes it is. That's the exact same thing. The first impression is conveyed by... the cover! Or call it the box/exterior/packaging, whatever, but the point is, judging a book by its cover is judging it by your first impression, and the first impression (if you have little or no foreknowledge at all) is conveyed by the cover.

Also I can't believe you guys have been talking about box art for this long.

Me keeping the disc without the covers doesn't make me feel anything, I feel a lot better without have to stick with those bad boxarts. Good boxarts will make feel even better than without them, but with bad ones is no good for me.

Hagren: the irony is that my shelf is so full of game boxes that I have no choice but to show spines!

But perhaps EA don't try hard with boxart anymore because it's not required for torrents!

As a matter of fact, they are trying to cut down on making boxarts to pave way for EA downloads, a possible only means of distribution.

If they do something like that, they are still disgracing the franchise for the sake of reducing their workload. Most of all, if the number of celebrities are cut down, the product could be sold cheaper as well. Celebrities do not come cheap these days, EA should spend more time expanding themselves and create more jobs, or from the start, create their very own CGI room, in that way, they don't need to keep on outsourcing CGIs and will stick to the way Westwood did with their older C&C games' CGI scenes.
