C&C 4 Reports & Info from CommandCom

Recommended Posts

Koen is still working on our own reports and articles containing details from his experiences at CommandCom over the weekend. In the mean time here's a summary of what has appeared at various other sources around the community.

:bullet:UnitedForums.de CommandCom Report

In the great feedback session at the end, you could really slam hard, which some did (though always constructively and withou flaming). Very amusing: when the devs asked who of us was unhappy with the Crawler system and would rather have basebuilding, pretty much everyone present held their hand up. The rest of the feedback was pretty negative as well. Everyone agreed the game might be good, but the gameplay doesn't suit C&C at all. The devs were really so depressed after that, I was actually sad for them.

:bullet:C&C 4 Info - Anonymous Source

  • There will be Tiberium fauna AND Flora! (With perhaps some Intel entry about it?)
  • The Nod Rocket tank is called the Mantis Tank, and it's not the Stealth Tank. Stealth Tank looks somewhat like the TS one, with 4 wheels or treads, and looks much better than the Mantis Tank.
  • The environment and atmospherics are great, even the particle effects are amazing when in action. The game feels and plays different from a SAGE engine game. When you play it, you forget that it's a game on SAGE. Everything is extremely detailed and varied, unlike previous C&C games. (Yet the game itself still feels very C&C-ish)
  • There is some kind of fire with a Visceroid on it that's being cooked.

:bullet:CNC Source C&C 4 Revelations Part 1

First Impressions: Fun, its fun you drop your crawler onto the battlefield *which is pretty cool to watch* and then you can start building units which you'll need to deploy for. We played a mission from the Single Player campaign as well as 5 vs 5 Multiplayer matchs. In both case's I found the gameplay alot of fun, action packed, game speed was quite good it didnt seem too fast in the multiplayer. And the cool thing is if you die you respawn and drop a new crawler get right back into the fight! Which the multiplayer plays alot like Battlefield controlling nodes to earn points toward victory. First team to remove all points from the enemy's team *by controlling points* wins.

Single Player: At first I was leaving my crawler behind like I would a base, but after playing for 10 minutes I always took my crawler with me as its very useful for supporting your forces. *as when it deploys it repairs units around it*. Which is true for all Crawler types now then. My first objective was to investigate some crashed drop pods which I recovered some GDI Engineers from and captured some old GDI Mammoth Tanks from C&C3 (C&C4 you can repair husks like C&C3) so C&C3 Mammoth Tank husks are around and GDI Mastodon's leave husks behind too.

Mutants!: Now when I got to these drop pods I encountered mutant forces! Which its great to see the Forgotten back and we had Mutant Hovel's spawning suicidal Visceroids that exploded in green tiberium gas's of death. The Mutant Gorilla which appears to be a hijacked Civilian Construction Mech of some kind being used for attack by the Mutants and the Mutant Bus. Similar to GLA's Battle Bus cept it has 4 Machine gun turrets. Killing the Mutant Hovel stopped the mutants spawning new units in the vicinity but the map was littered with them. On a gameplay side the Mutants are mostly used for XP grinding to level up early in the mission but its fun and great to see them back. Oh and Roasted Visceroid on a stick! was just a simply cool to see in the Mutant camps haha!

So there you go, plenty of reading material for you to get through. Expect more over the next few days.

Well, at least people are honest. I feel bad for the devs though. They go through alot of hard work and all they get is complain.

I believe in this EA, I can't wait for the release after these news!!

(Tiberium fauna and flora!!! EA FTW!!)

EDIT: Damn this sounds too awesome to be true!! visceroids, dark atmosphere and mutants!

I know I seem hyped, and I am!! These are by many means the best news about C&C4 yet :D

For the record, the guys at CommandCom who gave the devs their feedback were not complaining. Its not like that. The devs ask for honest feedback and that's exactly what they got.

So don't get the impression that every stood up and screamed about the game like the whining bunch who troll on the Official C&C Forums.

Look, the whole crawler idea aint bad. Implenting it into C&C aint bad.Completly focusing a C&C game on it is bad.

If EA was like, implenting the Crawler system, as a Skirmish And multiplayer Extra gamemode, it would have been fantastic.

I can see them making tweaks to the Crawler system but I don't see the old style base building and resource harvesting/collecting making a comeback. Although didn't they say are they are experimenting with a seconary resource system?

Well what did they expect to happen?

Exactly. I hope the gameplay doesn't stray too far from the previous games. Even though there are all the C&C units and stuff it just wouldn't feel like a real sequel if it changes too much.

I Loled at the part on suicidal exploding visceroids. Lol.

It seems the folks are happy with the overall of the alpha stages of C&C4. Well, all I can say right now is to look forward for the beta.

Wow, it hurts when the people raise their hand and say they're not happy with the Crawler system, so it's back to the drawing board?

so it's back to the drawing board?

Unlikely as getting struck by lighting twice while being mauled by a shark.

Its pretty obvious that the general population isn't ready for change. Maybe it will work in RA4, Generals 2 or some C&C spin-offs, but fans may not like this new gameplay in C&C4.

No, the dev team has done pretty much lots of hard work to churn out this Crawler system already. It's madness if they have to scrap this entire months of work in the recycle bin and revert back to the classic base building system.

Personally, if I can voice something out loud I'll advice and suggest that EALA developers need not be that sad, they could add in the classic basebuilding component into the game, hence making the game to have the "best of both worlds" capabilities. Everyone will be happy, those who want classic basebuilding will get their classic basebuilding style, and those who want change will get change, *here's my two cents*.

Of course, if its possible to "fight" with the top people to delay it for the sake of improving the product, by all means, please.

I hope the devs took the criticism well, and as a result will help improve the game. They still have a good while till release, so hopefully they make the most of it.

I know they won't go back to the drawing board, after all like you said, all that hard work suddenly go to the dumpster?

Anyway and still, I rather go for the best of both worlds idea so that both parties will be happy, both newcomers & elder hardcore fans.

Well, not exactly as I meant either. Guess i'm just tired of reading post after post with negative stuff about C&C4 and how it "should" have been. (not referring to anyone specific)

Now we got the tiberium plants, mutants and stuff. It's great and it's something I didn't expect.

I never noticed, does the gallery have a, "new images" feature similar to the forums?

Or am I supposed to just randomly check the gallery out and test my luck?

They gallery does have this, its always been at the bottom of the main gallery index. I've now changed it so the last 4 images uploads are displayed at the top.

Speaking of that which I forgot, the game I saw was kind of getting stray far away when they use the bottom bar. If they continue to use the sidebar, it'll keep the game in check as still remain C&C instead of being a regular RTS. Here's how I explain :

[# means where C&C4 is now]

When bottom bar is used

Pure C&C ******#*** Regular RTS (Including the Crawler system)

or *******#**

When sidebar is used

Pure C&C ****#***** Regular RTS

In summary, the bottom bar is just getting the original game stray too far away, but only a little bit. The dev team should still keep the sidebar or use the "Best of both worlds" method so that both sidebar & bottom bar lovers will be happy.

I meant is there a feature to tell me that new images have been added to the gallery, or do I have to actually look at the gallery to see the latest images?

Well yeah, you load up the gallery index and you see see the latest uploads by looking at your screen with your eyes :P

I tested an RSS feed mod for the gallery but it was kinda crap to be honest.
