My only question concerns:

"The universe will not end, but the Kane-Nod-GDI saga will come to a close."

Does this mean I'll never get to see Nod again? I know Kane is done, but I want to keep seeing Nod QQ

My interpretation is that we will never see Kane again. The saga of Kane as the Messiah will end. We don't know what happens at the end of C&C4, so there might still be GDI and Nod, but probably future games would focus more on the humans versus Scrin (if made).

I guessed it'll be pointless for Nod to exist if Kane's story arc ends. I do not wish to see splinter Nod cells doing stupid things (i.e. the stupid jealous loser fanatics assassinate the better Nod leaders and the stupid folks replace them of that sorts) after the events of C&C4. If that happens most probably they'll degrade to the point that Nod simply becomes so weak that it can crumble overnight by external factors (GDI).

Great reports btw! Still reading through them and the event sounds awesome. Wish I could be there. lol.

Lol to the events on the boat, fortunately many CNCNZ guys have seen that hilarious video I posted on the C&C4 TT thread.

Nice report. Considering a open mind and basebuilding, I have to quote somebody (TS forever) from cncden comments section:

"I think that many of us kept open mind long enough. Only base defenses and superweapons (defense class)can't be considered as real basebuilding no. Without powerplants or resource gathering (refineries)and maybe one or two of some other buildings there is no real basebuiilding. Hypothethicaly, what if we continue to keep open mind and waits for the beta and defense class and that doesn't change our current feelings about C&C4 (without basebuilding), what then? Even now there is low chances that EALA is going to implement basebuilding (fully, partially or in some other way), but if we keeps our mind open until the beta for <EALA to implement defense class and nothing happens, then we are going to have zero chances for basebuilding of any kind to be implemented in the game."

I tend to agree with this. I think that even with defense class it's not going to change opinions of many C&C fans. Don't get me wrong, but your suggestion to keep open mind sounds something like what EALA used as excuse at commandcom (quote from yet another commandcom report):

"One funny thing was that every time we'd bring up one point about the game, the developers would explain that we'd feel differently if we had played the other side (the Defensive class), the other tiers (the more specialized units), the other maps ("oh, on every other map we have a building that does that"), the other ____."

Oh, sorry, I forgot about quote tags ^_^

I don't expect he 'defence' class to give me my 'fix' with only turrents and SW... and I agree that now is the time to voice our concerns because Beta is balancing and bug finding not the dynamic game changes that a base-building-mechanic would require. The 'dream' response from this commandcomm would be for them to invest more effort into developing a non-crawler mode of gameplay...

But my question relates to gameplay mechanics... more specifically the economy and how it effects how we buy units?

The TCN are for depleting the 1000 points, so when you respawn your crawler what is the currency you spend to choose your units and upgrades.

How is it replenished? When your crawler respawns - how do build/buy your new units? What are the limitations???

(I'm asking Koen or anyone else who played the alpha)

Since gben suggested that this is a great opportunity to discuss some issues on C&C4, I'll discuss some concerns.

One thing I'm concern is, despite that there are confirmation that we'll be seeing flora and fauna back in C&C4, I'm wondering about those tiberium littered on the map, since they are not harvestable, the most important question is whether these crystals will be dangerous to infantries? And what about those blue ones, will they be back, and if they are back, are they going to be volatile as the ones back in TS?

Another thing is, will simply giving defensive class turrets and superweapon structures solve the neverending discussion on the loss of structures from the classic genres?

Two clarifications on the Tiberium flora and fauna: the artwork for the Tiberium on the maps we played wasn't done yet, so we didn't actually see a lot of Tiberium. We did see the Visceroids and the Mutated monkeys, and I have to say the civilian buildings really looked like a part of the map, instead of being "bolted on" as it looks in most other C&C games.

I will have to clarify my open mind statement:

- you have to keep an open mind on whether it will be a good game. I think it has the potential to be a good RTS game.

- there will be some "minor" base building with defensive structures, but there won't be refineries or power plants.

- if you are really attached to traditional base building and won't tolerate any changes there, then C&C4 will not give you what you want. The resource system will change a lot.

I don't want to get your hopes up about the defensive class too much.
