C&C 4 Developer QA Session #11

Recommended Posts

The latest round of questions and answers from the developers has been posted on the Official C&C Site. Session #11 covers Support Class support powers, placing structures with the Defense Class, and more.

1. What kind of support powers are there for the Support Class?

Both GDI and Nod have a full array of 15 unique support powers, which include summoned units, sonic artillery, Tiberium vein detonations, Firehawk Airstrikes, powerful buffs and debuffs, and even the ability to shut down the enemy team’s radar and spam randomly-placed team beacons to confuse them!

2. In what areas can the Defense Crawler place structures? Only around the Crawler itself? Any forward locations?

Around the crawler itself, any friendly crawlers, and any outposts. The outpost is a structure built up in the world by the defense builder units and provides the player with the ability to build in and control multiple locations. In addition, the Uplink Tower, a tech structure, provides build radius when captured.

3. What methods are in the game to clear garrisoned structures?

Only destroying a garrisonable structure will clear it in Command and Conquer 4. Pre-placed garrisonable structures will rebuilt over time, so the loss of potential defensive power in that area is only temporary.

4. Now that directional armor is back in the game, what damage percentage do units take from the rear?

Units take 25% additional damage from the sides and 50% additional damage from the rear. Air units do not get directional armor bonuses against ground units, through ground units do gain this advantage over air units. Even area-effect attacks can take advantage of directional armor, so force-fire near the rear of that column!

5. Will C&C4 have achievements?

Yes! There will be about 100 achievements in Command and Conquer 4. They range from easy (Raise 5 Hunters to heroic veterancy) to hard (Destroy 7 Crawlers) to just plain fun (Deal 1337 damage in 5 seconds with a single Mastodon). All achievements will also give you additional XP to help you level faster!

Have a question of your own that you would like answered in the future? Then post in the Ask A Developer thread on the Official C&C Forums.

I like the achievement additions XD. Sounds like they'll make the game funner and more rewarding.

Although more fun, but unfortunately, it has tons of crappy models, especially the Nod units. This is one game I finally decided not to buy, well, that saves me some couple of dollars so I can focus on getting a new desktop computer.

The GDI units are pretty good. Some have some bad tiny details and one is complely ftl(The orca tank) But the far majority are acceptable GDI models

The Nod ones............i fully 100% agree with you on this. What the hell has gone wrong their?

My prediction is still valid as always, the dev team are in trouble of how to set things right, I think we blame most of the 3D modelers or the source of the unit developer, our model or concept artists.

So anyway, I'm done for the franchise, it looks like I have to wait until April 2010 to read Kane's final story (March is its release month). Hence as you can see, my favorite C&C is still stuck towards YR, the last game ever made by Westwood.

Renegade was the last game by Westwood. If you look at their concept, the game was gonna be much better then the current renegade. EA came in and said RUSH RUSH RUSH RUSH and they had to release it.

The addition of achievements is moronic. Why do they think games need stupid achievements in them these days? Games in which achievements are the point of the game, fine, but everything else, especially a so-called RTS, achievements are the pinnacle of this-game-is-not-serious. Even the Red Alert universe is too serious to have achievements.

Achievements are the big fad these days. I don't know why, its all rather pointless. But since this is an XP driven game, I suppose its a nice way to get the odd boost to the next level.

Having achievements in PC is not always a bright idea, but at least it was kind of fun, especially look at Steam's games such as Left 4 Dead, their achievements are kind of fun. But today, most achievements are related to the Xbox360 games.

Not bad for those achievements, but they should implent also advanced statistics.

Like how many units you build of that unit, and each unit type how many it killed of that unit type.

MANY people care bout these statistics. Take Zero hour for instance.........God everyone kept playing that because of those wins/losses

Ok see ya later. Seriously we don't care so stop reminding everyone. I've heard this so many times over the years. Then a new C&C is announced and they all come flooding back

Once again you are misinformed and you fail to know the full story. But that's for another discussion. Because this thread is way off topic already.

Simply because its the "new" thing. People like them, it gives them something to shoot for besides completing the game.

Whatever... I know you will not care, I'm sure I also don't care for the others. Many of us always care for themselves, similar to, well, you get the picture, I don't want to bash further.

I think the game is gonna be good. I'm still buying it and i am more than likely gonna enjoy it. The removal of base building is nice too, i played a few rts games that removed it and have actually been good.

Well the crawler system wouldnt be bad. Its just not the way C&C should end

Personally the only thing bugging people atm is the unit designs. Well mostly the Nod ones. Some are just.......

QFT.

The main reason achievements is so popular, is because the player feels he/her can achieve something by playing the game more often. That's okay if it's a shoot-em-up with little variety in the gameplay, but it's something that a good RTS should make you feel in the game itself.

If i recall, the developers said it ends the current story ark. The Tiberium universe will go on i think.

Thank you. Seriously, Silverthorn, we all know you don't like the gameplay, you don't like the bottom bar, you want the boxart to be a soldiers head, you're not going to buy this game, ect. ect. ect.

I like the achievement system. That's kind of a good way to keep you playing. I liked it in Generals, but there weren't very many. Hopefully there'll be a good variety in this game.

I don't care what they'll say, and you got to admit, I'm a Westwoodian and I'm proud of it, the spirit will never die even if people doesn't care there's no such thing as ghost (If no such thing, why there's such a word in the dictionary, fools?!).

Be careful what you say or I prefer you to IGNORE my post (Pretend I don't exist in this place), please don't challenge me. At least I'm an ok guy, not like those hardcore Westwoodians you'll find in the official C&C forums, they're a lot more hardcore than I am, and worse, they can bash EA a lot harder than I am, far a lot who they are not afraid of getting warned or banned. But not me, I don't play the big game until I take the ban hammer.

PS : Even I won't be buying the game anymore, I'm just here to hang out and look at how C&C4 goes. If the game continues to gets worse and worse, I'll just let it be until many fans run away. If EA only cares of the money instead of the fans, be my guess, I can't wait to see their sales go lesser and lesser and the bad story continues.

I'm not going to tell you you're wrong or that you don't have a right to you're opinion, but you really say the same things over and over. Hell, maybe you're right, but you don't need to post it in every thread.

I know I know, it's just it's kind of my bad habit. I wish I could get rid of it, but it's hard and it'll take a lot of long times.

Embarrassing

This is a fan site, not a site for haters. We all liked Westwood, those where the days, but things are not going to be the same again, so I beg you: Stop whining.

Give some constructive feedback instead.

I'm a Westwoodian

Not to me.

Yeah yeah yeah, Acid, I know, it's just when somebody crossed my line, I lost my temper over it. And it hurts too.

Anyway, I'm sure you already know who I am and what I am, but today, it all comes down to this. And so far, I'm not going to keep on repeating again, especially since I won't be buying the game. Decision is not completely final ever since the gameplay video showed up and also more BCPT will come.

Can you guys please tone this down. Not the Westwood EA arguments again please. If you guys noticed Silverthorn just develops this habit of repeating his points loud and clear again and again. I don't know man, if ever any EA dev will be seeing this.
