Command & Conquer 4 Dev Diary: Multiplayer & Co-Op

Recommended Posts

There is a new Command & Conquer 4 Developer Diary video from IGN where Jim Vessella, Jeremy Feasel and Sam Bass discuss everything about multiplayer and co-op gameplay. And like many of the new videos we have seen these past few days, its available on the CNCNZ.com YouTube Channel.

This actually looks like its a lot of fun. I haven't offered much opinion on what I think about it before, but if they do it right it can turn out alright.

Sure, some say "it isn't C&C anymore", but in my opinion it hasn't truly been C&C since TibSun.

Note: I haven't played the beta.

Your'e right. It might just what people want; competitive, fun, tactical and innovative. But I personally doubt it will get as much success compared to the current hype.

I have a feeling people will it leave it to get dusty on their shelves in year or two. I truly doubt it will have greater success and get nearly as good reputation as the oldies.

Apart from all that I'm sure I'll spend a lot of evenings with it. Sadly it has lost it's potential as a LAN candy. Without the LAN ability, people rather stays home for better connection instead of gathering to do some onslaught, -which I personally prefer in terms of multiplaying.

Nothing new in this diary video really (If you've read all the articles already that is).

Exactly. If what they're going for is an immersive multiplayer experience, then why abandon LAN? It seems so counter-productive.

The thing is, unlike that video, I have not been in a single game where people actually played like a team.

In fact, most games just have people deploy their crawler in one place, and it doesn't doesn't move until it gets destroyed...

That's one of the many reasons C&C4 multiplayer isn't fun. Due to the pop cap, you cannot compensate for your allies' stupidity. As such, an idiotic teammate can and will ruin it for you (unless your enemies are also morons).

I once saw a 3 v 2 battle where the third played build engineers exclusively in support of his to players. The two attacking players had squads and squads of elite units. It was funny.

I was the third player who didn't realise what was happening until more than half way through... so while they fought a slow retreat, I whipped around and took control of the ore nodes, and we won the game.

Hmm... it is kinda tough compensating for weaker players. But generally speaking, it just requires double-teaming, with pop-cap, numerical superiority is a powerful thing I found.

The thing is though, the majority of the time the other team isn't really playing well as a team either, so if you get 1-2 allies that will even work with you for 5 minutes, you can completely turn the tide of the game.

And that is a terrible way to win a game, in my opinion...

I wish all of the recent EALA media material relating to C&C4 should be in one huge BCPT episode. So far the information we are getting is gaining progress.
