Not fond of the new site graphics/header.

Recommended Posts

Yo!

New on the Forums, but I've been frequenting CNCNZ since I glommed onto the C&C Collection a few months back. Came on today to find, in horror, that the graphics have been changed! I really don't like the new font used, nor the graphic behind it. I loved the old CNCNZ logo- the graphics used struck from players' screen captures, and the font was so clear I had no trouble remembering the odd spelling of the website's name.

If there's any chance the old design could be brought back, I humbly submit my vote in favour of it. Thanks!

Hi Worker,

You liked that old blue scheme, so I did, but after working on the site everyday it starts to get boring. I needed to change the layout. When you think it about it they layout hasn't changed that much.

Other reasons for the new look is because the old blue layout never showed all the C&C games. It was Generals in the top logo and Renegade in the left nav bar background. The new layout uses random logos (top left) refresh or visit another page in the site and you get a different logo complete with a known C&C qoute. And most importantly it displays all the C&C games in way or another.

Is this the logo your talking about?

Hi Worker' date='[/quote']

Yo, Sonic! :)

You wrote:You liked that old blue scheme, so I did, but after working on the site everyday it starts to get boring. I needed to change the layout. When you think it about it they layout hasn't changed that much.

Fair enough. Something like this is a labour of love; as an artist myself

I think I understand how much a place like this- a creation and a work- can mean to you. You think no less of we users, mind, but you certainly deserve a fair share of the creation and upkeep of this place. :)

As to the layout, that _is_ something I prefer in the new set-up. The old 'directory tree' in the left-hand box on the way in was confusing, especially when dealing with expansions like Yuri's and Firestorm. I love the speediness of this site, which has never changed- instant access to MOD and Maps, not to mention plenty of extras. You run a tight ship, skipper. :)

You then wrote:Other reasons for the new look is because the old blue layout never showed all the C&C games. It was Generals in the top logo and Renegade in the left nav bar background. I humbly submit that I enjoyed seeing Havoc's mug in that left navigation bar. ;) Renegade looks like a really swell game; I bought it as part of the C&C Collection several months back, but haven't played it yet (box isn't fast enough. currently running on a Pentiun 1/166MHz, but should have a 3.56GHz AMD in the next four or five weeks)... still, I'm looking forward to it. :) So I was right about the quotes, then! Coolness. It sounded like the sort of quote you'd hear a C&C guy or gal popping (especially the Yuri quote- I mean, come on, who the heck else in the C&C series would say something like that? :)).

Finally, you asked:Is this the logo your talking about?

Sonic, hope you don't mind me including the image in my reply; just want to make sure anybody else who reads this is up to speed with what we're talking about. Yeah, that's the one. I don't know what limitations you have in how (or if) you can spread it around, but I'd love to have a copy I can keep to look at and remember fondly, if it's workable.

Thanks for such a speedy and friendly reply, Sonic. A pleasure to make your acquaintance. BTW, if I'm remembering my world geography with any accuracy, NZ's part of the Commonwealth(?), so I hope I don't err in hoping you have a great Victoria Day! Peace-out!

You mean a copy of the old layout? Sorry I can't just give it to anyone

Yeah New Zealand is part of the commonwealth. As for Victoria Day, what is that?

In Canada we celebrate Queen Victoria's birth because She was the one that signed the British North America Act allowing confederation to happen. So without her, there would be no Canada.

Sonic, you extorted:

Oh, certainly not! :) I must not have been clear enough; I meant just the CNCNZ.com old header pic (what we both quoted in our messages recently), as opposed to the entire HTML for the old site. But one way or another, I humbly withdraw my request; if I do want to see it now and then, I can always return to the beginning of this topic where you've quote it. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Sonic, you conjected:Yeah New Zealand is part of the commonwealth. As for Victoria Day, what is that?

Victoria Day is a holiday held on the nearest Monday to May 24th in Canada. I humbly stand corrected by Phreakly:

Phreakly, you related:

In Canada we celebrate Queen Victoria's birth because She was the one that signed the British North America Act allowing confederation to happen. So without her, there would be no Canada.

I _know_ somebody told me this at some point, but I'd forgotten the importance of the circumstances in which it's involved with Canada's origins. Thanks for filling it in for me, Phreakly! :) Sonic, I had thought incorrectly that it was a holiday celebrated particularly amongst the countries of the Commonwealth, but apparently it's chiefly recognized in Canada.

How was yours, Phreakly, BTW?

I had no trouble remembering the odd spelling of the website's name.
its not odd. It is Command and Conquer New Zealand, I think.

I remember the days when CNCNZ.com was originally called TiberianSun.Net.NZ or TSNNZ, that was not a fun one to keep typing, in and when I first started coming here, had trouble remembering it, what made matters worse is that I always used to use it at school, at home, wasn't really the time I had to view the site..

Well not until www.cnc.net.nz came along, once that started, I applied for the site as a news updater, and finally got the position in September/October 2000, even though in the staff page it says 2001 :P

doesn't New Zealand have their own extension. Like co.uk and stuff. Did it have to be .net.nz?

The Command and Conquer New Zealand name was phased out long ago. Thats how it started, it was originally meant be a site for fans downunder, main of the sites back then were all US/UK/German based (as many still are). The CNCNZ part started because thats how people refered to it as. When got the www.cncnz.com domain the name of the site officially became CNCNZ.com.

Our old TiberianSun.Net.NZ or TSNNZ days were so long ago now. And yes back then I used a purple layout

If you use the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine you can kind of view old versions of the site dating back to 1998. Try domains such as ....

www.tiberiansun.net.nz

www.cnc.net.nz

www.cncnz.com

Yes New Zealand does have its domain suffix. We have .co.nz, .net.nz, .org.nz and .gen.nz
