GDI Mission Bug with Dropship

Recommended Posts

I was playing the vanilla GDI mission 8 (Destroy Vega's Dam). When I got to the bridge that connects the two regulation stations, the first Dropship granted me two Titans, but the other one just couldn't land! What's worse, it was flying around the nearest units it found, eventually confusing a third Dropship on the other side of the bridge (luckily, Dropship 3 managed to drop units).

I'm using the Official TS release from the official C&C Site. Did anyone have this problem?

Believe it or not, it actually has a meaning :D

Back to the subject, do you perhaps know what's the issue here?

Is this constant or a one off? The game has quite stupid code for a lot of things, and sometimes it does not have a clue whats going on.

Yes, this is constant, as I made a mission restart

Hi,

same problem here, but I have absolutely no idea what is going on with the dropships in that missions...but I have a solution maybe, until/if somebody fix it sometime...when I played this mission last time, this isssue occured when I have reached the dropship beacon with infantry units, so I have loaded the game and try to get there only with I think those two Titans from previous drop, but only to the distance necessary to activate the game switch which unreveal the beacon and sent them back immediately and that "crazy" dropship fly away as it was intended after it unload the units, so I suggest to try it the same way. :);)

I tried to do what you said. The second Dropship appeared when I got rid of Rocket Soldiers on the bridge, so I sent my units off the bridge. The Dropship managed to land on the bridge instead of the beacon, but didn't unload any units. It is also a bit shaded and can't be selected.

I've also noticed that some Dropships are not targeted by SAM-s, including the "crazy" one in question

As I stated before, this is the official TS/FS release from commandandconquer.com. Remember, it's ripped from The First Decade and patched to v2.03

Hmm, that sound very strange... :huh: I do not know if this problem is related with some differencies between First Decade version and the original retail version of the game, but I have retail version...and, perhaps important aspect of that mission...did you approach the dams and the NOD base in this area from front side ? Or you came from back of the base from tunnel behind it ? Because always when I am playing this mission, I do it with that tunnel way and that trick what I have posted before work for me every time, but I do not know if you know what I mean about that tunnel...here is a screen, tak a look please...

I always go directly to the dam. I tried to approach to this tunnel, but I can't find a way to reach it. The bridge that leads to it can be repaired only from one side. I was lucky once before, as I got an Engineer from an Orca Transport that was being shot down, but I didn't think of using that hidden passage... Sadly, the Engineer is rarely extracted. Tell me how do you get there

Yeah, this is a bit tricky...as you surely know, when you take out all of the SAM sites in the small town in the east of the map, then Orca Transport with engineers come in...but it will be shot down in most cases by the one SAM site and two rocket infantry units on the other side of the river...if memory serves me correctly, if you are playing on Easy difficulty, then exactly one engineer survive as the transport manages to survive and land, but then on Normal diff. it will be shot down before it can unload any engineers...because last time I have played on Normal, I invented little trick...take all Disc throwers you have and try to get them to the most northern corner of the town with the SAM sites and order them to force fire at the other side of the river where propably are those two rocket soldiers...the discs will make their path to the other side and hopefully hit at least one of them and he will come to retaliate but disc throwers or wolverines will make short work of him and now destroy all that SAM sites in the city and Orca Engineer Transport should manage to land and unload at least that one enginner you need to repair destroyed bridge...I hope you found it work...it worked for me, because without that one rocket soldier, the transport will not be shot down so fast... ;)

//you are welcome. :)
