nadersith 0 Posted February 25, 2011 Hello everyone! I'm a bored C&C fan from Spain looking for things to do I've just completed translating Firestorm to Spanish (which was never released on our language) and I'm thinking about adding subtitles to the cinematics, coding and decoding from .vqa to .avi to .vqa again. I was successful on this. Unfortunately, my English level is not good enough to understand every spoken word, but I'm pretty sure I can translate it once I read it. English friends! Would you spend a bit of your time transcribing the cinematic dialogues to a plain text file? You would make spaniard dreams come true Thank you all. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 25, 2011 I'd like to help Do you need only FS videos or TS too? Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted February 25, 2011 GDI videos 1-6 of Firestorm, and the GDI Firestorm end. This is as far as I got. Some parts were really hard to hear though... the pieces I couldn't understand are marked with *****. fs_vids_gdi_part1.rar Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) I've spent a decent part of the afternoon transcribing GDI videos to English so you can translate them. But they're all in text format, 1-9 and the ending. I too didn't find some words understandable. I heard some things Nyerguds didn't, and he heard something I didn't, so you can combine (Cortez seems to say "ansiliary" instead of "auxiliary" ) Firestorm_EN_Subtitled_GDI.txt Edited February 25, 2011 by Plokite_Wolf Share this post Link to post
nadersith 0 Posted February 26, 2011 Thank you!!! I just need Firestorm videos, since original Tiberian Sun was released in spanish. Let's begin working! When I finish, I will upload edited mix files to Megaupload, so everyone can get it. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted February 26, 2011 hehe, neat. Some people asked me to do the same thing for C&C1... I got the full spanish subs, but to edit the vids without too much quality loss is quite tedious, since they're only 256 colour 320x200. The main problem is mostly that any conversion to video puts it in high-colour, meaning I can't edit it without colour quality loss (when converting it back) X_x What program do you use to add subtitles? Share this post Link to post
nadersith 0 Posted February 26, 2011 First of all I export .vqa files to .avi with XCC Utils. Then I use Subtitle Station to generate a .ssa file containing subtitles. After that, VirtualDub and Subtitler plugin help me to make an avi video that I then recode to .vqa with VQA Encoder 0.5 Beta2. Some quality is lost in the process, but I think you can't notice it. It's worth it. Anyway, I will do some tests. Coding into .vqa is sooo slow. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 26, 2011 (edited) I would recommend using the simple Windows Movie Maker if it wasn't so hard to lower the detail loss to a decent level Currently finishing Nod campaign, only 9 and the ending left Edited February 26, 2011 by Plokite_Wolf Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted February 26, 2011 nadersith: I don't think you get it... C&C1 VQA is quite different. The VQA encoder only accepts frames for it because they not only have to be 256-colour, but they actually ALL have to be in the same 256-colour palette (though scene changes can have palette switches, in long videos, as long as they happen on an exact multiple of the key frames amount). Thanks for the hint on VirtualDub's Subtitler plugin though; that could help me a lot. But it looks like I'll still have to go to hi-colour for adding the subs X_xWolf: No thanks. I save all in-between results as raw avi anyway Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 26, 2011 Here are all Nod video subtitles. Though I'm sceptic about the all-accepted spelling of Slavik's surname... Most Croatian and Serbian surnames end with "ić", which is stylized by foreigners to "ic", which is always pronounced "ik". So that would mean that we have Anton Slavić? nadersith 0 Posted February 26, 2011 Yes, I was reading some of your post about it. I know C&C1 .vqa FMV need to be coded with 256 colour palette. Talking about TS I just tried to recode with the HiColor option marked in VQAEncoder and see what happens. Voilá, the video just worked, even in the game. I guess Tiberian Sun FMV are VQA Code version 3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.VQA Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 26, 2011 Just a note: I seem to have mispelled both Dr. Boudreau and General Marzaq (in the files they're spelled Dr. Budreau and General Marzak). Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted February 26, 2011 The manual says "Boudreau", yes. FIRESTORM CAST Tratos: Patrick Bauchau General Slavik: Frank Zagarino General Cortez: Efrain Figueroa Dr. Boudreau: Linnea Pyne Lab Technician: Tina Le General Marzaq : Nicholas Worth NOD General 1: Tom Wyner NOD General 2: Steven Wollenberg NOD General 3: Michael Hegedus Command Control Officers: John Branch, McKenzie Woodcock Command Control Technicians: Chris Nation, Troy Mclaughlin, Heather Nickens, Anna Chudora NOD Lieutenant: Jeff Soskin, Anthony Clay Kane: Joe Kucan Umagon Body Double: Veronica Becerra Cabal Voice: Milton James Eva Voice: Jessica Straus Chandra Voice: Kris Iyer Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 26, 2011 (edited) The manual says "Boudreau", yes. But I don't have the manual. That's why I downloaded EA's official freeware release, and then I bugged you about those ISOs, remember? Plus, I realized it when looking the game credits on MobyGames Edited February 26, 2011 by Plokite_Wolf Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted February 26, 2011 uhh, I got all manuals uploaded in the Westwood FTP Mirror... http://westwood.cncsector.net/ and on my site http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/manuals/ Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 26, 2011 uhh, I got all manuals uploaded in the Westwood FTP Mirror... http://westwood.cncsector.net/ and on my site http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/manuals/ Gee, thanks for the links. I was looking for the real Westwood FTP but couldn't find it (but it was up 3 months ago!). It also kinda hurts me that you have even the Slovenian manual for RA2, but I can't provide you the Croatian one Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted February 26, 2011 I got a collection pack called the "C&C Combat Pack". It has all its manuals on CDs, and the RA2 one has all these. So, yeah, sorry, any others simply weren't on it. You can see the pack on the bottom left of this pic (warning, HUGE). The CDs you see below the pack are the manual CDs. (And yes, I have the pack twice. One of them is French though) The official FTP is simply ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/, though it tends to show the EA FTP from time to time instead of the old WW one (which is why I made the mirror; I was afraid it'd all disappear permanently one day), and it doesn't have the manuals. I also added a load of officially released TS and Firestorm renders and videos to the mirror site. Share this post Link to post
nadersith 0 Posted February 27, 2011 It's ok. I noticed you wrote Budreau instead of Boudreau, and I fixed it. Don't worry because I look for "Tiberian Sun XXXXX" if I doubt about something. C&C Wiki has always the answer. Thank you! First GDI FMV is done. I have to check it and ensure it is alright. I will upload it to Youtube so you can take a look and discuss. Good morning! One last question----> What definition would you choose for Southern Cross, taking into account it's a base? HERE Share this post Link to post

nadersith 0 Posted February 27, 2011 (edited) Here it is. I need any advise about text format, etc. It's in spanish. Since the video is 640x400, you should push Youtube Widescreen button to expand it. Thank you! Edited February 27, 2011 by nadersith Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 27, 2011 It's great! The font size is like when watching a very-high-resolution movie. But, you said you're going to upload it on Multiupload. Isn't the overall MOVIES03.MIX too big for that? Share this post Link to post
nadersith 0 Posted February 27, 2011 To Megaupload (I have premium account. Anyway, I'm shuffling some options). Since it is EA Free version, file is MOVIES01.mix It contains TB GDI original FMV and Firestorm (GDI and Nod). Estimated size is around 1,1GB. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted February 27, 2011 Estimated size is around 1,1GB. WHOA! That's a bit big for downloading a non-torrent file... You might want to download Nyerguds' ISOs which have movies correctly divided. MOVIES03.MIX in English has only 451 MB. And the whole game will use less hard-drive space. Share this post Link to post
