Luk3us 63 Posted March 28, 2011 Fox News has already stepped up to the plate to criticize Duke Nukem Forever, even though the game isn't out yet. Duke Nukem Forever has become the target of a negative Fox News article calling it "sexist" and "over the line." The game was bound to come under fire someday, but perhaps Fox News should have waited to actually play the game first. The article uses Duke Nukem Forever's ESRB rating and news on its multiplayer modes to inform readers about the game's "awfully sexist world." The authors write that it "takes sexism to a new level," they pepper in a quote from a videogame writer that Forever is "meant to objectify women" without any context, and they say that developer Gearbox "may have crossed the line this time." The article also brings in an expert from the Women's Media Center that says Duke Nukem Forever "is even more offensive" than 1996's Duke Nukem 3D (has she actually played Duke Nukem's shooter debut?), and that the game's "depictions of women are extremely harmful, especially to young women." Let's be honest, the article is absolutely correct in saying that Duke Nukem Forever is over-the-top in male chauvinism, sexism, and "immature" humor. Where the article goes wrong is in its failure to explain that Duke Nukem Forever is one big joke. This is a game where players take poop out of the toilet and throw it at the wall and punch aliens in the testicles. It's not supposed to be taken seriously. Perhaps in the context of the actual game, had Fox News' writers played Duke Nukem Forever, they'd have realized its status as a parody of the cigar-smoking "man's man" action hero, though to an extreme a degree as you can get. Duke Nukem Forever isn't going to win any awards for moving society forward, but a silly game about killing aliens and boobs isn't going to move us backwards either. Duke Nukem Forever was recently delayed to mid-June for release on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/...e-Nukem-Forever Wow, I didn't see that coming. Good on you Fox News, keep waving that morality flag around.... lol. Share this post Link to post

Plok 327 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) Why don't they attack Rollercoaster Tycoon while they're at it? It has a possibility that people die on a rollercoaster or drowning people by towing them to a water block. but a silly game about killing aliens and boobs isn't going to move us backwards either. ^No **** Sherlock. Saracen 16 Posted March 29, 2011 So long as Gearbox "****ing Bring it!" in June (Yes it's been delayed cos Duke doesn't "Come early") then I don't care what the fascists over at FoX say. Just give me guns, violence, **** loads of Lesbian action, plenty of flesh when I enter a strip club, and enough wise cracks from Duke himself like he did in the original, then this game is totally made! Although Australia will probably ban it anyway, cos their ratings board is probably affiliated with FoX in some way. Share this post Link to post

Sonic 296 Posted March 29, 2011 Australia can ban it, Fox news can just go and die a horrible slow death..... Anyway, some reports say the recent Duke delay could have been planned by Gearbox all along. Gearbox say otherwise.... One More Delay for Duke Nukem Forever Isn’t Really a Trick, Swear Owen Good — When they heard the news Duke Nukem Forever would be delayed until June, many folks thought what I did, frankly: Maybe Gearbox and 2K Games planned all along for a June release, but gave it a May date so the game, 14 years in development, would get one last round of "Duke is Delayed" buzz with attendant teeth-gnashing. Not so, says Gearbox's boss. "We believed May when we announced it," Randy Pitchford said to Eurogamer. "There is always uncertainty and we use experience and trends to help us be predictive. We are not perfect when it comes to predicting uncertain outcomes, but we are perfect at being committed to our goals and working relentlessly towards them." After this kind of wait, there's no escaping the fact that something about Duke's release will feel anticlimactic. Gearbox doesn't want it to be the game itself. Pitchford said the delay is necessary to apply one more coat of polish to this game, which by now should be about as polished as the surface of a bowling lane. http://kotaku.com/#!5786014/one-more-d...y-a-trick-swear http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-03-...uke-nukem-delay Share this post Link to post
