Commander A9 0 Posted June 16, 2004 ok, my first post, yeah, been a C&C and Westwood fan since 97, love it. anyway, i am desperate to get my original C&C to work. i have a problem i have XP. ok, fine. found the patch. following instructions. C&C refuses to install, even with win 95 compatability activated. i'm getting a warning saying "Unable to load setup.mix file from cd-rom disc. press any key after inserting cd rom disc or press esc to exit." this is bad, cause the cd-rom is already in there. this is after clicking the EVA-labeled setup file that isnt in the install folder. after trying this method with the install labeled eva cd, i get the same thing. glitch: C&C was previously installed to old computer with win 95 that blew up. data was transferred to current system, to include C&C, installed files, and saved games. attempted to move files to C drive and place patch inside. attempted to run game, got black screen with version 1.97 and all that othe crap across the top, stayed that way, no response. removed file from my computer sector entirely, attempted to install C&C, which did not start autorun, even when prompted, used compatability option, got same error. tried turning compatability to win 95 on all exe files, got same thing. i am desperate to get this thing to work right. i need help, and im at the point of tears trying to get this thing to work. please! help me! Sonic 296 Posted June 16, 2004 First question, is this the C&C95 (sometimes called C&C Gold) version or the original DOS version? If you have the DOS version and your trying run it under Win XP its no use, it won't work. Have you followed our guide on CNCNZ.com located here http://www.cncnz.com/features/tech/ccxpfix.shtml Planet CNC have a detailed guide as well, check out http://www.planetcnc.com/features/techtroopers/classicsInXP/ Share this post Link to post

chickendippers 1 Posted June 16, 2004 What are you talking about? DOS is an awsome OS, it doesn't crash! Share this post Link to post
Commander A9 0 Posted June 16, 2004 to tell you the truth, im not totally sure. i mean, when i bought the game, it just said Command & Conquer. I'm sure it isnt gold. unfortunately, it might be the dos version. it tells me cannot read from source drive, but then tries to proceed as normal, and i get the same error as before, so im sure its dos. lemme see if i can find c&Cgold being sold online, highly doubtful however. well, i did find this site still selling C&C Gold, and just placed an order, even though i dont completely trust it. check it. http://www.rrcd.com/new/commandandconquer.html Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted June 17, 2004 I suggest you try ebay or Amazon and search for C&C gold on there... I must admit that XP has well and truly killed DOS and it is a shame for those of us who have some classic DOS games.... But we have to move on with technology.... fans of Doom and Quake have accepted XP killing of the orginals and as much as it hurts me to say this us C&C fans will have to accept the death of the DOS C&C on our XP machines  But all will not be lost.... I imagine that sometime in the future C&C: TD will be released as freeware and will be compatible with all machines as it will be in a windows compatible mode... Take the original Grand Theft Auto as an example (yes it is freeware!!!!) But saying that EA may remake the original C&C with a modern day 3D engine, ok it won't be the same but it'll be great to see an old classic get a great revamp Share this post Link to post

chickendippers 1 Posted October 24, 2004 Chat in Westwood Online has been disabled by EA to prevent spamming and trolling that was unbarable. Checkout www.xwis.net and you can play online, without cheaters and chat is enabled. Share this post Link to post
