But I don't think many people do settle with just that justification alone. I'll admit, I could be wrong on this, I do not understand a lot of human thought processes, and I have only done a small amount of research into psychology, but I'm still going to stick by my opinion on this... regardless of how selfish and demented their actions may be, people prefer to think of their actions as justifiable.

You really don't have a good understanding of the human condition, do you? That's not meant to be an insult, but it's empirical observation based on this thread and some others. Motivation isn't always as deep as proving dominance. It can be as simple as "because I can" for some people. Look at the recent debacle with "LulzSec." All of their actions were done "for the lulz", which is the 4chan way of saying "because I can." No deep motivation, nothing to delve into. Seriously. Not everyone is deep and philosophical. Sometimes they're just dicks for the sake of making life difficult for someone else.

Meh... I've tried to understand people for many years and I still don't get them.

 

I do not really feel or understand much emotion at all, but I've been mentioning this ever since I became active here, surely it didn't take you this long to catch on?

Sure, for some people, never did I say there is always deeper motivation, but I believe there is a majority of the time.

Before going further into this, I have done no research into psychology, I just try to analyse what I observe. I think a lot of people just have a lack of understanding of how most other people work, which is exactly why people form certain groups (For example, Person X who likes rock would never understand why Person Y likes rap and Person A who is calm would never understand person B who is pushy). And the people that do (the internet seems to stimulate social understanding by a huge deal), DO care to make their actions justifiable for everyone, but just to a certain extent.

 

I personally find it very difficult to analyse the sociology and psychology, mainly because there is such a ridiculous amount of variables involved and every human being is also interconnected (not an autonomous creature), not to mention constantly changing. But that makes it all the more interesting, to be honest.
