Guest narcisist Posted June 30, 2004 I just downloaded and played the demo to C&C Generals and my computer lags really bad, I mean it's frame by frame the whole way through. I know on the box it says you have to at least have 800 Mhz Processor, but I'm not sure what else. I have a brand new computer with a 2.4 Gig processor. I can do a disk clean up and shut down all non-essential and the game still lags really bad. Is this a problem with the demo version, because my computer should be able to handle this game, or do I have some software issues causing this not too work. I think the game is cool and would like to buy it and play it, but I'm not going too if it runs like this the whole way through. Thanks for any feedback. J-Fire_Man 0 Posted June 30, 2004 Maybe your memory is low. How big is you ram? What video card do you use? You will need 256 mb ram to play Generals (This is minimum) and GeForce 4 MMX 8X (This is minimum too ). If it's only your processor, it won't do any good. Share this post Link to post
Guest Honor_4Life Posted June 30, 2004 set ur vidoe card to the right level and it will work perfect............. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 30, 2004 Post your full system specs for us. The system requirements for Generals are.... MINIMUM CONFIGURATION (SOLO & 2-PLAYER MULTIPLAYER) - Windows® 98, Windows 98SE, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP (Windows NT and Windows 95 not supported) - 800 MHz Intel® Pentium® III or AMD® Athlon™ processor - 128 MB RAM - 8x CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive - 1.8 GB free hard disk space plus space for saved games (additional space required for Windows swap-file and DirectX™ 8.1 installation) - 32 MB video card using the Nvidia® GeForce2™, ATI® Radeon™ 7500 -AGP video card, or more recent chipset with DirectX 8.1 compatible driver - DirectX 8.1 compatible 16-bit sound card - Keyboard - Mouse RECOMMENDED (SOLO AND 2-8 MULTIPLAYER) - 1.8 GHz or faster Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlon processor - 256 MB or more RAM - 1.8 GB free hard disk space plus space for saved games - Nvidia GeForce3™ or more recent Direct3D™ capable video card Also, your video card could be on the un-supported list.... Known Video Card IssuesFor optimum video performance, we highly recommend that you run Command & Conquer Generals with an AGP video card. PCI video cards are generally much slower than AGP cards, and you may experience abnormally slow performance and poor graphics with a PCI-based graphics card. Additionally, the video cards listed below are below our minimum supported specs. - 3dfx chipsets - Nvidia TNT2 - ATI Radeon Mobility - ATI Radeon 7200 - ATI Rage 128 - ATI IIC AGP - S3 ProSavage - S3 Graphics Twister - SiS650 Integrated VGA chipsets - Trident Blade 3D - Vivid XS - VIA Tech graphics controllers - Quadro4 - Leadtek Winfast GeForce 2 GTA - SiS Xabre - Gainward Xabre - Intel Extreme Graphics2 82865/G If you attempt to run Command & Conquer Generals at 1600x1200 with a 32MB Nvidia GeForce 2 video card, the game may crash to the desktop. If this happens, try reducing the game's resolution. On some computers, supported ATI video cards will cause occasional graphics artifacts to appear onscreen briefly. Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed. If you are running under Windows 98, have an ATI Radeon 9200 video card installed, and are experiencing random crashes, add a “-noshaders” command line to your Command & Conquer Generals shortcut. To do so, right-click on the “Command & Conquer” icon on your Windows Desktop, choose “Properties”, and add –noshaders to the end of the path in the “Target” field. If you installed the game to the default directory, the command line should like this: "C:Program FilesEA GamesCommand & Conquer Generalsgenerals.exe” -noshaders Under all resolutions, you may experience that some objects like trees, walls, and pillars will flicker briefly. If this happens, saving and reloading your game will resolve the issue Share this post Link to post
Guest narcisist Posted July 1, 2004 2.6 GHz Intel Celeron Processor 256 Megs of DDR 40 Gig HD 3D Intel Extreme Graphics AGP The video card almost sounds like it's on the un-supported list. That could be bad. How do I "Set my video card to the right level" if that's the problem? You guys are really being helpful, hope I can find the problem. Thanks, Richard Barnes Salt Lake City, Ut Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted July 1, 2004 Yea, the vid card does sound pretty suck-ass to me. What other games can you play? Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted July 1, 2004 ok, heres what i want you to do go here and d/l tha tprog, then after you install it go under mother board and tell me who makes it, and what the chipset is. Also your video card is a onboard card, what im trying to do is to see if your computer could have a AGP slot for a nice video card. for changing your video settings under options when you get to the first generals screen set it to low or medium Share this post Link to post
Guest narcisist Posted July 2, 2004 Ok, I downloaded it and all it tells me is that it's: Intel Extreme Graphics Video Driver Intel Extreme Graphics Graphics Accelerator Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted July 2, 2004 There no such thing as setting your video card to the right level. Basically your 3D Intel Extreme Graphics AGP is an onboard video set up. It simply doesn't have enough grunt to run the game. It also shares your system memory, upto 32 or 64 MB of system memory can be reserved for onboard video, so rather than your 256 MB Ram you probably have 224 MB or 192 MB. Set aside more RAM for Windows running and you don't have much left for Generals or any other games. If you want to buy Generals (and make it run better) you will have to invest in a new video card, and maybe another 256 MB of Ram. The video card is the first step. You will also have to make sure you have an empty AGP slot on your motherboard before you buy a new video card. Share this post Link to post
Guest narcisist Posted July 3, 2004 Bummer! Sucks to buy a brand new computer and not be able to play a game older than that computer. Guess that's what I get for buying an E machine. Thanks for your help. Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted July 3, 2004 correction, go to Motherboard then go to chipset and underchip set properties what does it say the motherboard chipset is. and FYI next time you buy a computer do 1 of 2 things either go dell, or learn to build one on your own, which will save you $ and give you a kick as system Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted July 3, 2004 Getting a Dell wil not save you money. Building it youself will. Building one yourself is not as hard as it sounds, you cannot plug anything into the wrong place. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted July 3, 2004 correction, go to Motherboard then go to chipset and underchip set properties what does it say the motherboard chipset is. Hans, that would help him run Generals any better. In fact it won't run it at all. Share this post Link to post
Guest narcisist Posted July 4, 2004 Alright, question: I bought an Abit Suluro MX400 64mb Video card about two years ago when I was going to school and learning alot about computers. (now i'm more into cars). Does that card have enough kick for the game? Will it work in my mom's new e-machine. (I bought it for my old gateway). And will the card in her emachine work in my gateway? Can I swap the cards and be ok? Share this post Link to post

chickendippers 1 Posted July 4, 2004 Alright, question: I bought an Abit Suluro MX400 64mb Video card about two years ago when I was going to school and learning alot about computers. Can I swap the cards and be ok? Well I have a 64Mb card in my website-doing computer and it runs Generals/Zero Hour at low graphics acceptably. However, my card is an ATI card and I have never heard of your card before. You can give it a shot, but I can't guarantee it'll work. Share this post Link to post
Guest narcisist Posted July 4, 2004 Would the Intel Extreme card that is in my mom's e-machince go back into my pentium 3 powered gateway, specifically without and drivers? Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted July 5, 2004 I haven't got a clue. I don't know if XP's driver database goes back that far. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted July 5, 2004 Would the Intel Extreme card that is in my mom's e-machince go back into my pentium 3 powered gateway, specifically without and drivers? It would be best to search the Internet and get some drivers for the Intel Extreme card to be on the safe side. Even if Windows doesn't have the right drivers in its database Windows will switch to the default the SVGA display drivers. Also, once you install your Abit Suluro MX400 64mb for Generals get that latest drivers installed. Download them http://www.cncnz.com/files/support/drivers.shtml You will need the ForceWare drivers. Hans5849 0 Posted July 7, 2004 ok, so heres my reponses you can not take the intel extreme out because its not a card, its built into the motherboard. my suggestion is if you have $165 get this its a good video card and since the 2 new lines have come out its gone down $60. And before any body says anything, with that card the difference between 8x agp and 4x agp is pratically none. that will fix your video problems and make the game run smooth. if you want even better preformance in everything (such as browsing the internet and starting your computer) get this and if you have any other questions on how to upgrade your pc post at http://www.tweak3d.net the main page may not be updated, but the forums are active Edit: oh and to answer your question yes you could put that card in, but it wouldn't do any good at all. Guest narcisist Posted July 9, 2004 Okay, let me ask this of those who understand the almighty nickel budget. What's the least expensive card to buy to get this game to run smooth, but not cost me my grocery money? If I can't find one cheap enough, then I have to wait til I get my credit leveled out so I can go buy a new system myself, and by then, this game will be as old as the original is now.
