Luk3us 63 Posted May 20, 2012 Lets set the stage shall we... Bioware - Best known for their RPGs and action games, no RTS experience. Their most recent games haven't been stellar, Dragon Age 2 taking a lot of flak, and then there is Mass Effect 3 which is just a PR nightmare that refuses to die. Their MMO is doing fine, but the impression is they expected more subs at this point. C&C4 - Worst command and conquer game ever conceived, it was just terrible. I think the worst part of C&C4 wasn't the game itself but the PR blitz that came before. One man to single out would be Samuel ****ing Bass. (Every time that man speaks a kitten dies. ) So we have a developer on the decline and a publisher who thought C&C4 was a great idea. So my question fellow forumnites is what do you think Generals 2 will be like. 1 Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted May 20, 2012 Bad news for ya. Sam Bass is still the lead designer of Generals 2. Source: http://www.cncsaga.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8891 1 Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 20, 2012 OK... So Generals 2 is now officially a multiplayer game just like its predecessor, and Samuel Bass is still a ****ing tool. Share this post Link to post

(Every time that man speaks a kitten dies. )[/quote'] I may admit that campaign was "a bit too funky" for "epic ending of C&C series", but multiplayer wasn't so bad... maybe the "rock-paper-scissors" system was too much pointed in this game, but we must remember about initial concept of C&C 4. The game itself was being developed as multiplayer platform, not "end of Tiberium saga". Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted May 20, 2012 The game itself was being developed as multiplayer platform, not "end of Tiberium saga". Then why did they advertise the latter so much? Share this post Link to post
Traymen 6 Posted May 20, 2012 (edited) Then why did they advertise the latter so much? Ask EA why they changed their minds about this title, why one day it was "C&C Arena" and next it became "C&C4". Remember that this part was best sold C&C ever (according to http://forums.cncnz.com/topic/13507-command-conquer-4-tops-sales-charts/). We may say many things about this game, but it has more multiplayer players than all parts together. Edited May 20, 2012 by Traymen Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted May 21, 2012 C&C Arena was something far different. http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Arena It was a cancelled 2009 game that had TibWars units. And C&C 4 topped the charts only for a few weeks, it isn't the best-selling C&C ever. Get your facts straight. Share this post Link to post
Traymen 6 Posted May 21, 2012 (edited) Game mechanics for multiplayer game were the same - for each battle you gain "points", which you may change for new units / upgrades etc. Nevertheless the game gone through great gameplay changes for accomodation in single player campaign. Even in your link it has been said, that there are rumors about initial concept for C&C 4 made in "C&C Arena". Maybe just for few weeks it was in top charts, BUT i don't know any other C&C game being on top for few weeks. Edited May 21, 2012 by Traymen Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted May 21, 2012 For those who still don't know. C&C 4 started as a mod of TibWars. It was at some EA studio in Asia or something. Some guys there were experimenting with other ways to play C&C. This where the Crawler idea began. By the the team at EALA got hold of it the plan was to release it to the community, probably for free. However once the corporate suit big bosses at EA got involved they basically said to the devs at the time to tack on story and repackage it as C&C 4. All of this was explained by Sam Bass in an EA podcast interview a long time ago. We posted news about it here http://forums.cncnz....the-ea-podcast/ but like most EA sites the content is no longer online. So I would be blaming Sam Bass and the devs for the **** game that C&C 4 was. Just put C&C 4 down to what it really was... a "product of a dysfunctional corporate culture". With things changed within EA I'm sure Generals 2 will be a high quality game worthy of the C&C brand. Share this post Link to post

Traymen 6 Posted May 21, 2012 (edited) Ever heard of Tiberian Sun? Damn it, ( ) but we must remember why this game had so good sales. Mostly by great actors like Michael Beihn or James Earl Jones. They significantly "capped" this title up. You won't find any known actor / actress in C&C4 (except Kane for C&C community). Edited May 21, 2012 by Traymen Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 40 Posted May 22, 2012 (edited) Bad news for ya. Sam Bass is still the lead designer of Generals 2. I had a feeling it was him all along as the last man standing in the EALA RTS team. I can't say I would blame him for some of the disasters in recent C&C development. Edited May 22, 2012 by zocom7 Share this post Link to post
Guest AgrippaII Posted May 22, 2012 C&C 4 Tiberium Twilight was the greatest RTS game ever made in the history of the human race. In fact, it was the greatest game ever made in the entire history of the known universe. 5v5 was awesome! Base building is annoying and crowds out the playing area. It is a logistical nightmare to base build. I hope they make the bases small with Generals 2 or preferrably not at all. http://biblocality.com/forums/showthread.php?4692-C-amp-C-Generals-2&p=9653#post9653 3 Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted May 22, 2012 I can't understand how you'd prefer a game that is so unrelated to the core concepts of C&C over any other C&C game... Share this post Link to post
Guest AgrippaII Posted May 22, 2012 I can't understand how you'd prefer a game that is so unrelated to the core concepts of C&C over any other C&C game... The core concept of C&C is innovation and so they appealed to my desire for the most fun. Base building is passe. You do understand base building is annoying, it clutters the board, and slows the game down. 2 Share this post Link to post

You do understand base building is annoying, it clutters the board, and slows the game down. If it is so "passe" Blizzard should abandon StarCraft 2 in current concept and reorganise whole game to non-base strategy... i don't want to know what Koreans would do with them if they would do that.
