EA sues Zynga for ripping off a Sims game

I bet there's more than one "ville" game from Zynga that could be a copycat of The Sims (or even SimCity). Besides, both Facebook and Zynga are already losing money this year and I bet it could get worse than that when it comes to lawsuits. As for me, I already quit playing all Zynga games for good in Facebook since they are a waste of time.

After reading the entire complaint, I can't see how EA cannot win this. It reminds me of cheap Chinese knock-off imports you see all over the place. Looking exactly the same, at lesser quality with only a few minor changes that make no difference to the overall product.

Whilst both companies are in this industry for an assured quick buck these days. At least EA's cash cows have enough quality and direction to give them the edge they deserve. Zynga... well they're just them, creating their Chinese style digital knock-offs. I hope the company bankrupts! We certainly won't be missing it.

Did you look over the complaint, DD? I have to agree with Saracen here, there are way too many similarities for it to be just "a similar idea".

eh, I think EA is being a bit overzealous here. God forbid anyone ever has a similar idea.

Zynga has LITERALLY pulled off a copy and paste job with this game. EA has every right to sue them.

Yeah, usually I'd say they're just similar, but in this case. Its just copypasta.

A co-worker of mine showed me this, it's pathetic. Absolutely the same in almost every manner. EA has a victory easily.

This also reminded me of something that caught my attention on Reddit the other day. Basically, a small studio creates a game and it gets knocked off completely by a Chinese team. They then put it on a Chinese gaming service and it gets rated pretty highly and sells well.

Except, unlike in this case where EA can just sue the ba-jeebus out of these guys, this gets a little rougher and harder to rectify. The link to the Chinese game on the Chinese network is broken now though so maybe the network did pull it. Pretty interesting to read about. A formal article is here.

Here's something of interest whilst I was viewing Facebook... Remember Mark Skaggs? Worked for EA, got a bit upset when he left along with others? Check this attachment out and specifically the current company he works for along with the title he's worked on.

Probably Coincidence... But one hell of a one!

Zynga's attitude in their response is like their target audience, immature imbeciles.

They should just admit they are too worthless to come up with original content and settle.

They reached a settlement out of court, it's not like the judge threw it out.

I'm guessing Zynga gave EA a suitcase full of money, EA's eyes lit up with dollar signs and all was forgiven.

Pah. I'd like to know how much moola it took to call it all off.
