Sean Decker EA Russia Interview

Recommended Posts

I don't see how you can call the game Pay to win, if you dont know anything about how the service is going to be. We have no idea what will need to be paid for and until we do saying the game will suck because of that is an entirely baseless claim. Until we get more information other then "It's Free to Play!" we should do what we C&C fans seem to do best, wait for information. Even though I'm starting to think our new best trait is uselessy complaining when we know nothing about the just announced game, once the game's mechanics ect are announced, please go ahead and voice and your opinion, not before when we know next to nothing about it.

Let's get in here to clarify some things:

- Sean Decker's answer actually hit me by surprise. But i will give you guys a little bit more insights on how to read the "2 factions at launch" quote. "At launch" isn't really the best term to describe it - The beta will only have two playable factions, yes. This is considered launch for us, as the service needs to be up and running, obviously. The beta period is all about working on stabilizing the game and it's KPIs. But obviously we have more Generals inspired factions in the works, that will be introduced later during beta or when the game drops it's beta tag.

- Pay to win: I wrote some things to consider regarding to P2W in another thread. But again, just because you can buy SOMETHING in a store, doesn't mean it will be pay to win! There are good examples out there, that incorporate a non Pay 2 Win store. I've raised that flag within the developer team multiple times now and they are aware that a p2w store in an RTS will harm the consumer experience.

- Command & Conquer as Service: The announced Command & Conquer will indeed be a whole C&C service platform that leverages the power of Frostbite 2. We will start by visiting the Generals universe as first content. Over a long period of time we ultimately want to visit the other great C&C Universes to become part of the platform. The details on "Do i chose the universe on start" or "Can i play GDI vs Sowjets vs GLA" are not finalized yet - It's more of a rough idea - However, No exact details on the how itself.

...I'm basing this on the fact that they are talking about e-sports. Something that can NOT have P2W!

Might be a non competitive mode with P2W. I'm personally fine with that. But as long as they put esports as a goal, I don't think there's much to worry about.

I'm also basing this on the fact that this is not an afterthought move on EA's part. They talked about Games as Service a E3 this year. Heavily.

And if anything, then this is the first time that C&C is not just a side product, but part of the company wide strategy, which includes all their biggest franchises. Which is the exact opposite of what they did when they forced C&C4 on Arena.

I think this is a good point, but I reminded about Formula-1 racing.

Isn't that a Pay-2-Win sport in real life?

An example of superior cars not superior drivers that win races...

I'm not a motor-head so I could be wrong - I'm just saying there is a weak precedent in real life.
