Sonic 296 Posted May 12, 2013 CnCSaga.de has posted a new interview with Tim Morton, the Development Director at Victory Games working on the new Command & Conquer - Free to Play. A lot of the questions cover most of what we have learnt from other interviews in recent months, but there are still some interesting questions in this one, with some samples below. Why did you decide to make Generals 2 a Free2Play title? The free to play aspect, while notable, is really a by-product of the new underlying philosophy for this game. Where past titles focused on releasing one version, this new C&C will be a continuous live service that never stops improving based on feedback from players. A lot of my answers below are driven by this: we will start with the essential core and then build from there. The approach is markedly different from past products (tightly focused feature-set in the beginning), but I am convinced the long-term outcome will be higher quality. Will EA be releasing another full price C&C title? There are not currently any plans for another full-price C&C title, but past C&C titles remain available in “C&C: The Ultimate Collection”.By when can we expect a beta-phase?Select community members are already providing feedback to an “Alpha Preview” in a closed environment, but the constantly evolving nature of a live service makes the terms “Alpha” and “Beta” less germane. More players will gain access over time until we’ve reached a point where we believe the game is ready to be completely open. Our hope is to be fully open before the end of 2013, but we’re not yet ready to commit to a specific date. You can read the full interview in English, German or French. Share this post Link to post

Sonic 296 Posted May 12, 2013 Summary: "We don't have X, but this is something we might explore in the future." Yeah that all got from this interview as well. But you expect Tim and the dev team to give up all answers at this stage. The simply aren't ready to. yeah indeed! and it seems they are far aWAY for a release This year.... This game doesn't really have a "release" date like a boxed retail product. I'd say people who are not part of the closed alpha, or the closed beta will get the play it during the open beta when ever that happens. But I'm just guessing here. Can't really say anything more. Johnnyxp64 20 Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) obviously few community lucky are accessing the alpha as we speak, but what does it mean the game doenst have a release date as a box product? its a product, boxed or digital the first version HAS to be completed and be live to everyone, and they seem to don't know what the first "version" yet will have for sure! and its been what? almost 2 years in development? sure the core engine mechanics take long time, but the game Designer should have made up his mind at least for 50%+ of the contant so far! they seem not to! i hope they dont wanna give us un poor unfinished product, so that the "users" can Finish it????? then we are the developers? if so i want my ulimate collection beta access as soon as possible to start working on this baby! Golan 6 Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) It's a free online game, it wouldn't make sense to put that in a box. It sure would make sense to have some definitive milestones for when the game is considered ready for revealing it to the public. First impression and all that stuff. Doesn't have to be a physical box. Edited May 20, 2013 by Golan Share this post Link to post
