matrix3412 0 Posted September 20, 2004 Hello, I am trying to play C&C Generals online but it says can't connect. I have followed the guide about opening the ports with my router (netgear rp614) and have even turned my software firewall off. I have the version 1.7 patch installed as well. Can someone please help me as im stuck and would really like to play online? Thanks Edit: Im using windows xp pro w/SP2. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted September 24, 2004 Do you have the opened set to the proper connection type? Were you supposed to open them TCP or UDP? Check the tutorial again and check your connection type. If all else fails, connect your line directly to your computer. One last thing, you don't need a firewall if you have a router. matrix3412 0 Posted September 24, 2004 Thanks for the reply I have tried most things now I think and everything failed so I have tried it without my router and it still fails to connect. I have done a fresh install of the game a few times now and when going to multiplayer - online it fails at that point saying it can't connect. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted September 24, 2004 Odd. Hmmmm.... This might be harder than I thought. I'm not really sure. Try resetting your modem by unplugging it. See if that helps. Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted September 24, 2004 I have done and restarted my computer. I have no idea what to try next. Thanks for the help Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted September 24, 2004 What's the link for the tutorial? This isn't that hard of a problem. There's one of two possibilities: 1) Your router won't/can't esatblish a connection and there's nothong you can do. 2) Your ISP won't allow you to connect to the gaming servers. Thierry 0 Posted September 24, 2004 Maybe your on a network with a firewall? Or any kind of firewall for that matter. Share this post Link to post
matrix3412 0 Posted September 25, 2004 I opened the ports from this website: http://freewebhosting.hostdepartment.com/s...etting%20Online I can rule no. 1 out as I have tried it without my router and I think I can safely rule out no. 2 as my friend has the same ISP but his works fine. As for firewalls over a network, I have gotten rid of mine and my other computer hasn't got any so it can't be that. Thanks for the help Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted September 25, 2004 http://www.cnc-source.com/index.php?page=m...port/routerhelp Try that too. Share this post Link to post
matrix3412 0 Posted September 25, 2004 Ive read through that but why won't the game work even without the router connected? In a way, what that link said was similar to me taking out my router from the problem. Any ideas on anything else that could be blocking it? Do you think it could be something to do with Windows XP SP2? Thanks Share this post Link to post
matrix3412 0 Posted September 25, 2004 Finally I have gotten it to work In the HTTP Proxy bit I typed in 8080 and it worked. I never knew I had to do that and I don't know why I tried it but im glad I did Just one quick question: When I have tried to connect to a few games it says 'Different Version' how do I change this to the correct version so I can play? Thanks for all the help Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted September 25, 2004 Make sure both computers are running the latest patches (just goto "Online" and it'll download the patch if you need it). Also, make sure you don't have any mods installed. Share this post Link to post
