TFD issues... lots of them

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am new to this forum. Sadly, I came bearing bad news about my experience with the TFD. It used to work with my old laptop flawlessly (except for a few color issues). That old laptop has now gone into the afterlife and I got a new one. Anyway here are my issues:

CnC

- Menu screens and cut scenes have messed up coloring fixed

- In-game screen is shifted all the way to the top left corner. fixed

- In-game screen seems to "scatter" or get stuck in the regions where it isn't at (it's shifted to the top left) fixed but still happens sometimes

fixed with the patch suggested below

RAI

- Messed colors on cutscenes, images, and in-game

- Getting in-game is hard, I can't see the menu even if I ALT+Tab

- Can't see my pointer/cursor on menus and sometimes in-game

- slow visuals on "score" screens in missions but otherwise perfect

fixed with the patch suggested below

TS and TS:FS

- Works flawlessly, cutscenes and everything, in-game colors. The only issue is the main menu, it seems to get frozen and can't see my pointer. I ALT+Tab and I may or may not see the menu.

Renegades

- Perfect

RAII + YR

- In-game and cutscenes are perfect. Images are perfect too.

- The menu sometimes gets frozen, ALT+Tab may or may not show the menu properly. Even so, it's only a one time remedy.

- For some reason, I can't do the "random map" thing where I set the parameters of the map and the game generates it for me. On that note, the map selection's right column menu only gives me two options "Random Map" and "Exit." The description on "Random Map" is pretty much "select map."

- Most frustrating IMO because this is my favorite game in the series

Generals and ZH

- Both games do not even start. I simply get a window that says "technical difficulties" that says something to the effect of my computer having too weak of a hardware or due to viruses.

- Frustrating...my second favorite game in this collection.

My TFD is patched with the unofficial 1.03r4 patch from here.

My current laptop has:

Processor: i7-4700mq @ 2.4-3.4Ghz

RAM: 8GB (2 4GB sticks) 1600mhz

GPU: Dual Nvidia GTX 765M in SLI (2GB vRAM each)

OS: Windows 7 sp1 64-bit

Screen: 1920x1080p 60hz

I am running GeForce Driver 347.88 (latest driver from Nvidia)

NOTE: I've tried some of these games when I am on integrated graphics and some of these games work. My old laptop had a 2.4Ghz i3, no dedicated graphics card, 2 2GB RAM, and same OS and all the games ran properly on that one (laptop was running hot though).

Can someone guide me to a fix regarding this matter that wouldn't involve playing these games on integrated graphics or getting rid of TFD altogether?

I found that all my color issues with the cutscenes and menus are fixed with turning visual settings to "windows classic" and opening the "screen resolution" window in the background. All colors were fixed but that's it. The rest of the issues are still there. Sorry for double posting.

The frozen main menu in TS is also fixable, with this:

For RA2... someone linked me to this video:

For all games:
-Open the game executable file's properties and open the compatibility tab. Make sure to run them in Administrator mode. For Gen/ZH, also make sure you run them in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3). If you are not offered Windows XP, then choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 1).

For C&C1, after installing the 1.06c patch, if you get problems like your screen freezing during map animations, or the ingame main menu not responding, make sure you set the game's exe file (C&C95.exe) to Windows 95 compatibility mode. The included configuration tool CCConfig.exe mistakenly disables this compatibility mode, so if you use the tool, make sure to re-enable that compatibility mode on the exe afterwards.

For RA2, put VideoBackBuffer=no and AllowVRAMSidebar=no under [Video] in ra2(md).ini. Usually helps RA2 perform better as Westwood derped with it.
