TibEd 2: looking for Generals & ZH editor maintainer

Recommended Posts

Yes, you've read correctly. I am looking for someone to maintain parts of the Generals and Zero Hour editors for TibEd 2.

The two most important parts maintained by this person would be:

- the property editors: the order of the keys, what categories are in there, etc. Starting with beta 3, this will also include the special editors (like a up/down button for numbers, etc) we all know from TibEd 1.

- the Generals/Zero Hour help files.

Of special interest is that I've built a tool which has re-extracted all the keys from the game INIs again, but this means that all the property editors have to be organized (again, current organization cannot be copied over), but at the same time one can add the special editors. Suffice to say, this will take quite some time, which I do not have right now.

Post here if you are interested in helping out!

Skills needed:

- enthusiasm

- you'll need to know a fair share about editing the Generals INI files, or at least enough to know how to look up allowed values for a key and how to write a description. And you can always use Deezire's INI guides to help you if you get stuck! Or ask me!

Well, if it wasn't for the WR Mod, I'd help, but if no-one else wants to help...

J_Fireman has posted in the Editing discussion saying he finds it interesting. But he's also on the WR mod.

It is a matter of editing textfiles ('only') but also the current property editors have to be redone (so there are no missing keys anymore).

I have to do some packaging first so it won't be this week.

That's the intresting part, for example, when I'm coding WR, I might find usefull codes description which will be good for TibEd ZH help file. I often find new things when I'm coding WR. So this will be like working on 2 project at the same time. Besides, I'm on holiday, I have lots of time to do things.

Guest Halo

I am the author of GTools (http://gtools.sf.net) and with me going back to tech soon my development time is also going to be cut back. I see you are also going to be straped for time so what I propose is we create a common help file system maybe in xml that we can both use. I dunno if this would work because we have diffrent aims in mind with my code being open source and yours shareware. Any ways let me know what u think, [email protected]

Hi Graeme,

having the same helpfile format would be nice.

I proposed something like that when Generals was released, but there was not a lot of interest (not a lot of editors around). You can find the TibEd one here:

http://www.tibed.net/beta/generals_help.xml

The current TibEd 2 one might have minor changes, but not in the general help. I still need to convert a lot of that INI thread in the Deezire forums, but alas, no time. The format should be self-explanatory. The <e> tag is to allow for other languages in the future.

Guest Halo

Ok thats fine, although I might not use the same format I should be able to generate a list from it if I do need it in a diffrent format. What I suggest we do is setup a common list that lists all the sections and all the keys that the ini files can have. Say 1 set for Generals, Zero:Hour and BFME, and then as we add to the sections and keys into the help file we can mark them off so we dont end up not knowing what we have in the file and what we don't. I don't plan on starting with this help system until I have completed Beta 1.0 of my editor. But I think we should get this structure in place to make things easyer. Let me know what you think.

Right now the format is pretty organized... like you have a top-level tag Object, and inside it you will have keys for object. And this could be nested to have like behavior inside object.
