J-Fire_Man 0 Posted December 22, 2004 Any know any good video codec? Until now, DivX pro codec is still my choice, but it reduce the movie quality. Bik codec is by far the best as far as I know, however you will only be able to open it using RAD video tools. Cinepak codec will create a great quality movie but the movie size will be very big. I really in need of a good codec. If someone know a good video codec which can compress video into as small as possible but don't reduce the movie quality, please tell me. I'm often working with video these days. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted December 22, 2004 Xvid is pretty good. Though its just a bastard version of Divx since they went commerical.. WMV is pretty good. Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted December 22, 2004 I heard that WMV 9 codec is the best video codec today. Haven't tested this one yet, but I ussualy never use wmv codec because eventough it will generate a good quality movie, the size is too damn big, I hope this version will be better. 100 mb just for a 5 minute duration movie using the best quality. The most important part in making video is the video quality and the size. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted December 22, 2004 100mb? What are you like making the videos some stupid size like 640 x 480 or something? I usually get a vid out at about 15mb, 5min @ 480 x 360. Which is pretty decent. Even inlarged to full screen. Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted December 22, 2004 Yes, 640 X 480, that's my ussual video size. Quality is everything. I can use a filter to make it 2:1 with better quality, but it only reduce the size a bit. Bink is an awesome codec, sadly I only can open it using rad. I'm downloading Xvid for now. I hope this will be better. Thanks for the info anyway luk3us Arghhh.....there are only the XviD sourcecodes in download section, whre is the application? I don't have much time to make the program using the source codes. Luk3us 63 Posted December 22, 2004 Do you need the RAD video tools to play .bik files. Cause you didn't need em' for Renegade. And they used the .bik files. Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted December 22, 2004 luk3us, most games which use bik video codec already associated with RAD Game Tools. So, you even won't need to use RAD Game tools to view the movies, they already configured it in the application. And I don't know how to mak such application to open bik. So RAd game tools is the only way. Share this post Link to post
