ra2 install problem on clean install win xp sp2

Recommended Posts

hello everyone,

just built a new system, but not every component is new.

my setup is....

abit as8 mb 865 chipset

p4 2.8 800 bus

corsair xms ddr 400 mhz

all in wonder 8500

creative sound blaster audigy

sata 80 maxtor for OS install

various other drives for storage and dvd rom's/burners.

the new components are the as8 motherboard, the lga 775 P4 2.8 cpu, the ram (512 for now), the sata 80 gig maxtor hard drive.

here's the problem, i installed xp and sp2 from scratch procede to load varioous windows updates, antivirus, all prgrams etc...

try to install red alert 2. it seems slow and sluggish. then a small white box apprears in the center of the screen. Error message which says, setup.exe has encountered and error and needs to close, sorry for any inconvenience... report to microsoft, don't send debug, these are my options. Upon further inspection , by clicking "click here" to see more detailed explanation it mentions ~de7bc4.tmp as the modname appver offset and modver all reported as 0.0.0.0.

it doesn't appear to be a driver issue as i've got the latest drivers, i even tried the older drivers with no luck. i can load other cames fine with these roms, they are fairly new. the cd's play fine in other pc's i use them in, but i made backup copies anyhow. i have not had a problem with xp before.

i am an administrator account, its the only account on there i checked for spyware, virus, etc.

i doubt this has anything to do with it, but, due to my setup with 4 ide devices and my sata drive as the os, my os drive reports as "G" instead of "C". the reason i doubt that this is the issue is that other games load fine and wait till later to ask the install path, and ra2 waits until later to ask the install path... aka doesn't begin installing right away.

someone please help me resolve this.

thanks

Where's Fenring when you need him.......

You can browse to set your RA2 directory, as it wants to use the c drive, set to G drive. No clue if itll work, but it shouldnt hurt either.

Do other C&C work fine? Most importantly, TS. If the other C&C work fine, then I dont have a clue. (not that I had much of one any way)

To tell the truth, I think that service pack 2 is causing the issue, as for myself, installation did go well ( I have a seperate physical drive of 250 GIG), but trying to play some times require to restart my pc almost a dozen times

specs are :

Asus A7N8X-X MB

Amd 2500+ Proc

1 GIG kingston DDR 400 Ram

1 WD ATA 120 GIG hard drive ( partitionned : c: 20 gig, win 98SE FAT 32 D: win Xp pro Sp2, 90 Gig, NTFS)

1 Maxtor ATA 250 Gig Hard drive (unpartitionned, NTFS)

1 Pioneer DVD burner 8x dual-Layer

1- 10X LG dvd-rom

SB live 5.1 MP3+

all of this incased in a Raidmax Scorpio 680 case with added neons and stuff. (includes round ata cables , but who cares =)

so, a few things happneed...

application failed to initialize correctly (oxc0000005)

I would crash back to desktop when I want to go online

and it would crash like mentionned in another forum: with the send/ don't send error screen

I have to say that I had to restart my pc a few times when this happens , and it's going fine afterwards

Thanks for the reply.

I got it to work a few hours later, by changing the compatibility to 98 using a shortcut on the desktop, setting Windoze installer to Automatic in the services list, and then re-booting.

It works fine now. Thanks.

I play like a quadriplegic in a game of water-polo.

If I'm lucky, people will forget about me long enough for me to build my base.

If I'm really lucky, I can build ten tanks and some rocketeers.

I haven't killed anyone yet in my five online games.

I usually play on the XIWiS thingy. Not many people, but someone said it's better with no cheaters.

Should I use WOL instead?

either one is fine

XWIS=fair games, but less frequency

WOL=tons of games, but with many cheaters, n00bs, and bots involved

Once your up to it, WOL can be fun to beat up on the cheaters. but more often than not you'll get pwned

still fun when ya do beat 'em though :D

Fenring's idea worked for me too. Brand new PC with XP/SP2 P4 (Yuri didn't work) vs XP/SP2 P3 which did work. Only difference I could see was old chip was not compatible with Data Execution Prevention software, which allowed software to operate ( :?: ). Once I did the suggested switch to win98 compatibility, Yuri was back

EA-Apoc has assured the community he will do all in his power to provide XWIS with the best possible solution and minimize any further outages. XWIS is firmly commited to the support of it's servers along with the community. So time to play :)

Yes I was overjoyed to hear that XWIS has control of online C&C. I did a prolonged "happy dance" when I heard the news.

Canada rocks :D
