Flying tanya. Plz help me debug this.

Recommended Posts

Well, I've made her fly, but now she's being plagued by a swarm of bugs .

First, she can't attack anything. This is boring. I set the primary weapon to a maverick and the secondry to a RedEye (patriot missle).

Second, she can't die, but she can get stuck. When she gets shot down by flak (or whatever), she sits on the ground and doesn't move if she lands somewhere that infantry can't go. She also doesn't die, and can't be killed, as proven by two batoons of paratroopers shooting the he-l out of her. Instead, she makes a dying noise when shot at (her health is at one red bar) but never dies. So I can kill her over and over... boring.

Edit: I just tried copying all the rocketeer's settings into tanya's settings in the ini file. I still had the same bugs, although tanya made different sounds...

Edit, I just tried changing tanya's identifier entry in case I was dealing with a hardcoded bug. Which fixed nothing.

Edit: I created a clone of the lunar infantry. The bugs showed up only when the lunar infantry was given the same image as tanya. This seems to indicate that the hardcoded bugs are liked to the image :(.

All it took was a little edit to the art.ini file. Now she is swimming in air tho... I hope to corect this. When I am done, I will post the solution to this problem so everyone can make flying hero units!

umm, no it isnt.

it's actually a part of a huge mod i am making. The reason for flying heroes is that in the origional YR, hero units weren't even worth building (at least when playing online). Now they will be heros as they should be: fully capable of single handedly taking out an entire army and then some. Of course, they wont be too powerful, armor is reduced to 75.

Congratulations. You have officially gayed up Yuri's Revenge.

Let me put it this way: hero units are SUPPORT units, not direct assault. They're meant to be used as back up in a strike force.

Please learn to play the game before modding it, kthx.

Wow. Try and reconcile these two points of his:

Now they will be heros as they should be: fully capable of single handedly taking out an entire army and then some.

Of course, they wont be too powerful

 I don't know about you, but I think a single person taking out an entire army "and then some" would in fact be too powerful.

C'mon now, I am making a mod and people flame me for it. How nice is that? (warning: that was extreme sarcasm)

Anyway, I am making the hero units more powerful because right now they can destroy whole bases easily when playing AI, but are useless when playing a person who is not dumb enough to let Tanya walk right in with out facing a tesla tank or something. In most games I play online, no one even bothers using hero units at all!

And they're not "too powerful". Their armor has been severely weakened, so they must be supported by either ground troops or rocketeers, seige choppers, etc, if they are to live. One shot with a patriot and it's no more with them. Three shots with flak and they're dead. And in less than a second, the gattling tank gets a promotion .

For example: boris has a rad beacon to get rid of dolphins. This is to force the allies to use boats, or at least bring an aegis to protect the dolphins. This prevents sneak dolphin attacks on subs. Anyone who is not such a noob as to not know the infamous dolphin 'line of fire' trick will know why I did this.

And of course, each side has equalizing hero units of their own. For example, YuriPrime will have a small laser to hit tanya/boris with. Also, because seige choppers and rocketeers make good cover for tanya&boris, Yuri gets laser rocketeers (they are weakened because otherwise they would be too powerful) to balance the power here as well.

It's not the fact you're making a mod. It's what you're doing with that mod, eg gaying things up royally with this flying hero nonsense.

Anyway, I am making the hero units more powerful because right now they can destroy whole bases easily when playing AI, but are useless when playing a person who is not dumb enough to let Tanya walk right in with out facing a tesla tank or something. I've seen skilled use of heroes in multiplayer games against humans. The heroes can be useful if you're using them properly. Most times though, tank battles are the primary focus so infantry are rarely a part of battles.

And they're not "too powerful". Their armor has been severely weakened, so they must be supported by either ground troops or rocketeers, seige choppers, etc, if they are to live. One shot with a patriot and it's no more with them. Three shots with flak and they're dead. And in less than a second, the gattling tank gets a promotion.

They're still too strong. Heroes are support units for your main strike force, not the other way around. Number of shots to wipe one out is misleading since you can have them grouped together with other units and they'd not take a hit until a few seconds later. Still not balanced.

Great, you've officially made Boris lame. If you want to stop a Dolphin attack, watch closely and keep tabs on your naval units. Aside from being underpriced, Dolphins aren't that powerful. Since I rarely play naval maps, I've never heard of said "trick." It sounds like someone's using the Sonic waves properly by focusing their attack on a deeper unit so it hits more than 1 at a time.

Yuri is a mind controller. He does not use conventional weapons. He uses his mind as his attacks. If you insist on destroying Westwood's ideas, make a TC out of it and stop gaying up standard YR. It was bad enough as it is without someone else making it worse. No offense bro but you have a lot to learn about balance and modding. -_-

Yuri never had Laser Rocketeers at any point in development. He had the Parasite, which was an infantry version of the Floating Disc.
