Sony has revealed it's next-generation PlayStation 3 console at it's press conference prior to E3. The PlayStation 3 will feature the much talked about Cell processor, which will run at 3.2 Ghz, giving the whole system 2.18 teraflops of overall performance. It will sport 256mb XDR main RAM at 3.2 Ghz, and have 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700mhz., six USB ports, built-in ethernet and various other inputs and outputs, as well as a detachable hard drive. Similar to Microsoft's XBox 360. The graphics processor, based on Nvidia technology and called the RSX "Reality Synthesizer", will be capable of 1080p high definition resolution, and is apparently more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultras combined. Despite it's looks it has some beautiful internal features... XBox 360 might have just met its match... It'll be interesting to see how this and the 360 compare side by side with the same game...

 

Forget the 360, I've had the last 2 PS consoles so naturally I want this one

You do realise, that the people at Microsoft have gone and done the most baznet thing possible and put the release date of Halo 3 as 'pending' so they can release it on the exact same day as Sony release the PS3. I think the PS3 will get hammered but will remain consistently brilliant using its long term franchies (tomb raider for example) to try and help us create something thats going to hit microsoft in the gnads for sales.

PS3 looks wrong, it looks like I can make toasted sandwiches in it. The controller is the worst part, why so do damn big?, looks like a boomer-rang.

 

Not sure if I'll buy either console when they are released but I will eventually get an XBox 360.

They did say over a year ago it was going to look like a toaster....

 

But no matter what Sony will have a larger market share than Microsoft in this next round of the console wars... X Box has only risen to fame and popularity over 1 Exclusive game a.k.a. HALO.... But Playstation has had many Exclusive such as Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Being the pioneer of the Grand Theft Auto games... do I continue??

 

The console for fact has more trademark titles than any other console combined. For most there is nothing that can be classed as excellent, that isn't already on the Playstation... The only Exclusive XBox games I've seen all seem to be rather Mediocre.

If you watched the 2 hour press conference there was a lot of influence from the Spider man movies - he popped up in a GT5 trailer, and they used Octo to show facial distortion and characteristics.

Sony is cahsing in on the only other thing aside from the Ps that people know they own, which happens to be the Spiderman license. Its just the way thinga re, aswell as having a huge fanbase it also has the scope for, as mentioned, you can show off some of the most amazing graphics ever seen. Spidey was an investement, one that just keeps on giving.

but yeah, did you know that they ran the actual movie CGI animation of spiderman flying through a city in a demonstration? The thing was being rendered in real time by the PS3 hardware :shock: Man that thing is a beast. Have you heard much about the cell processor? They say it's like a "supercomputer on a chip." Yeah, the PS3 is gonna rock

evry1 knows that sony always make the coolest looking consoles, so why people would thing it was going to look like that.....
