CombatGold1 0 Posted June 20, 2005 Ok, after much configuration and fiddling with IPX settings, I finally got my laptop and desktop pc to link up over an IPX network. So, we start the game, and after about 10 seconds, the player joining blows up and dies in a flash. I thought maybe it was the wireless network quickly reconnecting, or maybe the playing of an unofficial map. So, instead I put in a cable for the laptop, and played an official map. The same happened again. Any thoughts? Share this post Link to post
mjrkane 0 Posted June 21, 2005 what are the specs it might help. you're using wireless as well... make sure you do not have anything in metal blocking your way, nor having anything that might contain water ( including, yes, the toilet bowl) I know of some sources that linksys wirless connection have a hard tiome with a 128 bit encrytion (WEP) Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 21, 2005 My wireless works fine online despite having plumbing and electronics in the way. Lightning doesnt even effect mine. Wich, BTW, is a Linksys wireless G version 3.30.15.0 Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted June 21, 2005 As I said, I tried it with a cable to and it still happened. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 22, 2005 Do you live near heavy power lines, a radio station, or anything wierd like that?? Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted June 22, 2005 LOL no, all our power lines here are underground, as well as telephone lines. No radio stations here either. BTW it's not a hardware problem, it works with my brothers desktop PC upstairs.. it's more of an in-game problem. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted June 22, 2005 So, we start the game, and after about 10 seconds, the player joining blows up and dies in a flash. That usually happens when: 1)You are either using an illegal version of the game 2)Someone else is using your CD Key 3)Game files are corrupt. Or you haven't removed a mod properly... Usually reinstalling the game works... Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted June 22, 2005 To tell you the truth, I installed the game with the exact same copy. I thought with the standard Red Alert 2, you were allowed to do that, as it comes with 2 disks. With Yuri's, I gathered you couldn't, so I did it anyway, and altered the CD key on the Laptop's Registry. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 22, 2005 Well, withyou messing up the CD key, DUH its not gona run right  tsk tsk, if you dont mess with any C&C game at all except for patches, they run perfectly Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted June 22, 2005 I changed one figure in it because I didn't think they'd join with the same key. If I use same keys on both machines, when one tries to join the other, it says it can't join because someone else in that game is using the same serial# If I use different keys on both machines, when one tries to join the other, it's fine, the game starts, but after about 10 seconds, the person joining the game automaticly surrenders without even doing anything to make that happen. Edit: The laptop machine automaticly surrenders a few seconds into a single player game too. It's obviously not a network problem anymore, just a problem with that machine. It's fine on my desktop computer. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted June 22, 2005 Edit: The laptop machine automaticly surrenders a few seconds into a single player game too. It's obviously not a network problem anymore, just a problem with that machine. It's fine on my desktop computer. DUDE. Luk3us just told you the problem, and you still don't get it apparently. So here it is in even plainer English... The problem has NOTHING to do with your laptop. You need 2 CD KEYS to play the game on 2 computers. 1 copy, 1 computer. That's how it works. Share this post Link to post
dapperdan 0 Posted June 22, 2005 and incase u still dnt understand, the CD key for the laptop has to be totally different to the one used for the computer. not just edited in the registry. Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted June 23, 2005 DUDE. Luk3us just told you the problem, and you still don't get it apparently. So here it is in even plainer English... The problem has NOTHING to do with your laptop. You need 2 CD KEYS to play the game on 2 computers. 1 copy, 1 computer. That's how it works. I gathered that part. You obviously didn't read the part where I mentioned single player skirmishes don't work either. Maybe you should also read replies too huh? and incase u still dnt understand, the CD key for the laptop has to be totally different to the one used for the computer. not just edited in the registry. I thought as much. Anyway, RA2 without expansions works, with one CD-Key, which I guessed it would. I'll go and buy another Yuri's Revenge for the laptop. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 28, 2005 this is getting to be one of those problems (like compatability for older games) that is getting way too much airtime, and every other person seems to make a new topic about it at one time or another. Not htat Im slamming the people who have these problems, its not always their fault. Just pointing it out I guess. Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted June 29, 2005 I only made this because nothing came up in the search. Is there a problem with that? I thought that's what a forum is about, users can create topics relavent to the forum name and description, which I have done. I even searched for my problem before posting, which you must admit, next to nobody does that because they are too lazy. My search returned nothing relavent to my problem, so I created this. Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 30, 2005 a lot of times people talk about their game related problems when another topic begins to die. You can still post abotu it, I was just commenting. In the past, there have occasionally been a problem or 2 that get like 6 topics covering them. Nothing wrong with this one, I just seem to remember a lot of people in the past have mentioned something kinda similar Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted June 30, 2005 Anyway back ot Is there a fix avaliable for the AI, it's damn annoying being player one, and having to take all the attacks and super weapons off the AI players :/ Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 1, 2005 Regular patch, make the AI on different teams like you as team A, 2 AI as team B, one as C, one as D or something like that Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted July 1, 2005 RA2 has all the official patches, if that's what you meant by regular patch. As for teams, you can't do that on the standard RA2. Share this post Link to post
CombatGold1 0 Posted July 10, 2005 If you read the rest of this topic, you'd notice at the time I only had one copy of YR, which is why I was asking about the standard RA2, because that can be played on 2 computers with one serial. Luckily, I do have 2 YR's now, got another copy cheap off eBay. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 15, 2005 I did read the rest of the topic. That was just "positive rienforcement" to get a copy of YR  Share this post Link to post
