Its not just that Europe doesnt always like to help rich countries that can do it themselves.. Its also the fact that America does relatively little to help the rest of the world (that is if you look at dollars per head) plus I dont think they liked it very much that they had to ask the rest of the world for help.. its not something the US likes to do..

Oh and about the wake-up call.. its not a wake up call on sercurity.. its more a wake up call that shows that only looking out for terrorists wont keep you safe from other kinds of catastrophies.. and it proves that cities should have emergency plans.. esspecially if its protected by benches that could break, even though that might be unlikely.. The Netherlands had war with the water before.. we learned to protect ourselves over 50 years ago..

again its back to $ per head...... AMERICANS PAY VIRTUALY NO TAX..... how the goverment ment to get more with out a civil war? oooh and i guess the $120 bill they gave them affected by the tsunami dosnt count? or that they give something stupid like 500% more cash to charity as a country than any other.

Not to sound mean but America did need a good ****ing wake up call. I don't think 9/11 was enough.

is this gona be your attitude towards every catastophic ossurence on our little planet ??

It might be. I guess we'll have to see what the future brings. See, I have a realistic approach to life. Stuff like this is going to happen and if the government feels the need to refuse to help and people refuse to leave, then I feel no sadness for them. People are too abject to human suffering. We need to let natural selection weed out the weak and stupid... see? Realistic.

HOWEVER, if someone was in my town, and had suffered a major catastrophe like that, I'd help him out in a real way. Buy him a meal, buy him some useful items or whatever he may need.

S'truth. New Orleans is a good example of Natural Selection in action. A bastard and cold-hearted I may seem for saying that but if a hurricane threatened to flood Auckland in the way Katrina did to New Orleans, then I sure as hell wouldn't stay in my home.

Well I agree that this nation is chock full of dickheads.

Id ask for a few more hurricans for X-mas, but some of these places Id liek to see before they get trashed.

As for America not helping on terms of $per head......you be stupid to judge a nation like that. So dont make it a habit.

Everyone says it was Bush's fault that what happened happened. But He doesnt have time to make each city's evac plan. Sheesh.

Europe cant talk. You dont get Hurricanes

I don't know why you'd live somewhere where that sort of thing happens so often....

It didn't happen in New Orleans. It was always forecasted that this would happen but in the past, hurricanes veered off and the people saw some wind and heavy surf. They developed a state of complacency towards the whole thing and that contributed to some people's unwillingness to leave.

and the fact that the city government didnt think it would ever happen.

unfortuneatly, the sub-county that I live in is kinda the same way, only with Tornadoes. We havent been hit dirrectly for over 60 years. We had a few close calls last year, but I dunno......

course, the topography kinda helps us out here

Too bloody right you're not. If you want to stay, it'll take five years of trying to apply for a NZ citizenship, and then we'll just say 'No' anyway. Just to spite you. :P

There's nothing wrong with working for an insurance company, just as long as you aren't in the call centre having to deal with angry customers - your workload might quite high processing all the quotes though.

Being a damage assessor woulodn't be fun in New Orleans though.
