C & C and Red Alert for Playstation question

Recommended Posts

Hello there

Just a quickie for you guys. The Playstation versions of Red Alert and Counterstrike/Aftermath (and possibly C&C) were supposed to include some exclusive content on the PSX which was unavailable for PC users (which always sucks).

Command & Conquer is now available for console owners. Oh, happy day! In addition to the original 45 missions, Westwood has also added the "Covert Operations" missions and five specially designed missions available only for the PlayStation.

*Note* The back of the PAL version states SIX new missions.

Retaliation also features the seven new units from the PC add-ons, as well as new video sequences specifically filmed for this PlayStation disc.

Has anyone ever ported or remade these missions/cutscenes to work with the PC version?

Cheers for now

I never played the PC version of all the RA exapsnsions. Which was Retailiation..

There wasn't that much of a storyline for the expansion kit... Though the missions were fun. :D

Well. If nobody has tried this I feel a little project coming on... :)

I'll have to find a copy of the games though. I got rid of all my C&C PSX stuff :(

Unless I can find an iso somewhere around the good old internet.

The Playstation version of C&C included the Covert Ops expansion and five specially made missions, three for GDI and two for NOD. The Red Alert expansions Counterstrike and Aftermath were bundled together and titled Retalliation, as part of getting expansion to work for the Playstation. Depending on which side you played as, you would get cut scenes of General Carville or a Soviet general for each theatre of war (the missions were split up into countries) and as well as brief you on the ultimate objective (such as stop the use of sarin gas or eliminate Carville) they would promote you, award you with medals, and appear at the end of the campaign, where you either get drunk with Carville or the Soviet general retires and hands over command to you.

I have. With the new VQA Encoder I've converted the RA Demo truck movie from this site to VQA format. If anyone wants to host it... be my guest.

I need to talk to you :) The future of RA depends on it!! Well, maybe not that... but it's quite important :D

Well. I finally found what I was looking for!!

I managed to extract the map and mission files for the C&C Playstation extra missions and they seem to work okay.

I rejigged them a bit as they used some odd movie file choices for the actual missions, so I just settled for GDILOSE and NODLOSE (depending on which side you play).

There are actually 4 missions for GDI and 2 for NOD. the last GDI mission appears to be something of an "in joke" for Westwood (?)

I've used the original mission numbers for these, but made them into a Covert Ops "format" so they are selectable through "New Missions".

Let me know if you have trouble with them.

...now.. onto those RA Retaliation movies :)

<edit>

Just to confirm that the PAL version does indeed advertise the fact that there are 6 new missions -

I wonder if there was a reason for this...anyone?

Hmm...

Two things...

Firstly

There is a problem with the final GDI mission (which Nyerguds prompted me to check!) The Orcas are supposed to be upgraded to have a laser from an Obelisk!

But obviously this is only possible with an altered exe file.

Then of course you have the problem with the laser animation not showing.

Funny thing is though, it shows perfectly on the Playstation!!!

I will have to identify which SHP file is the one for the Orca and see if that helps...

Mind you, the mission is still winable, even without a super powerful Orca!

Secondly

The 5 or 6 mission question has become clear. It seems that the 4th GDI mission is only selectable by using a code. Looks like the US version tried to keep it a secret :)

Cheers for now

I'm currently very busy converting all these wonderful movies to C&C format... and more :)

I'm restoring the Tesla Tank movie, and perhaps even a short Chrono tank one.

Great :)

Lol, it isn't Carville; it's just some bald Russian bloke :P

You can forget that... it is indeed Carville :P

Anyway... all Allied movies (yes, featuring Carville) and the intro are done. Will do the Soviet ones tonight :)

BTW how are you extracting PSX stuff onto PC ???

There are a couple of programs around the good old internet which help with this.

One of them takes streaming video or audio from the PSX disc (seeing as the CNC ones actually use Mixed Mode CDs - meaning REAL CD audio, instead of AUD files)

The other uses the DATA.FAT file to identify the contents of the DATA.MIX file on the disc, which is not a standard MIX file and extracts it. Problem is you have to figure out which of the files it produces is which, using a bit of trial and error.

Luckily I only had to identify 12 files from C&C and only had to extract the Videos from RA-R.

Also lucky is the fact that the files from CnC are in the same format as the PC version, and the fact that the VQA encoder has been developed :D

Now, trying to get any information from the N64 version is going to be the hardest, if not impossible without rewriting the whole map/mission thing.

Anyone here proficient in C&C95 mission/map creation?

Cheers for now

I cannot see khow you're gonna get stuff off an N64 cart. unless some sort of PC-reader exists.

I don't either.. but it's worth a look :)

I shall post here if I get any further with that particular part.

It's the Special Ops missions...

GDI Special Operation 1

GDI Special Operation 2

GDI Special Operation 71 [DYNAMIC]

GDI Special Operation 72 [sTATIC]

GDI Special Operation 73

GDI Special Operation 74

Nod Special Operation 1

Nod Special Operation 2

Nod Special Operation 70

I only have walkthrough info on these so far, but it'd be cool to get them into a CnC95 format. We shall have to see...

Cheers for now

Well. There are certainly remnants of C&C for the PC left in the N64 version.

I just opened the ROM in a hex editor and saw this -

I shall look further later :)
