Everyone should care about their country to some degree.

 

For example, New Zealand has a few special things that have made this country famous over the last century, for example, the splitting of the Atom by Rutherford (funny how many scientific videos hardly mention the fact he's from New Zealand :roll:), the conquering of Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary, and the man who contributed to Watson and Crick's discovery of D.N.A: Maurice Wilkins (funny how he usually gets left out, when it was his research, along with Rosiland Wilkins's, which gave Watson and Crick the information needed to actually put forth the D.N.A. paper in the first place :roll:). More recently is Peter Jackson, for Lord of the Rings (which wasn't -that- great, but hell, it was better him than some other random guy ).

 

I'm proud of these people and the fact that these feats and a few others have placed New Zealand on the map.

 

But you shouldn't go too over the top, I mean, c'mon, we know that America is the most powerful country on Earth, do we have to be reminded by the Americans amoung us every ten seconds? :roll:

It isn't that you don't know what the patriot act does' date=' it is that you do not know if its being misused, will be misused or why it was really installed. I believe Britain itself should have 2 years national service. Not for war, but for teaching many of the anti-social hoodlums we have here RESPECT. Just as you said. Christians, they want you dead because you do not follow Islam, we saw that with the terrorist attacks I just mentioned. Israel, they want you dead because you are an example of the west working, they are meant to be a supporter of terrorist attacks against Israel and have said of their condemnation of Israel. Jews, Al Qaeda want you dead for the same reason they want Christians dead, when you look at Palestine you see Al Qaeda celebrating every Jew killed. Eastern countries, they want you dead because you are not Muslim, we saw that with Bali and you could make a case with Eqypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Muslims, Al Qaeda want you dead because you are not militant enough, we saw this with the above attacks and when one of the London bombings as specifically targeted in a Muslim suberb. With that said, I believe going into Iraq as the biggest example and looking to colonise Mars have detracted from weeding out terrorists of every race, color and stripe and doing away with them.

It is good to see that you are proud of your country and proud of what your father has done. You have every right to be. However, one thing that really irritates me about the new Simpsons episodes is how Homers has this 'I'm great because I'm American' attitude crops up, and I know for a fact it is the same in real life and for other people.

The soldiers think they are fighting for peoples freedom. They are out there because thats what they wanted to do with their lives. I do agree, they are heroes. I have great respect for the army, my father is a sergent major himself in the British TA. He almost went to Iraq however his medical examination before didn't prove good. Lucky in my eyes.
