Trying to install Generals.. I get this message when trying to access setup:

error.jpg

Anyway, tried checking out the settings, wiping the temprorary folder (since it is a temp file)... every time I install the tmp file has gone from is5 to is6, and now I'm on something like is58! I've pulled every trick outta the book... why's this happening?

Ok thats weird, do a scan of your drive, maybe a defrag, remove all your generals files, run disk cleanup to remove all the tmp files and try again.

This is the thing though. I have not long done all that, and I formatted my machine not long ago.

My machine was in a much worse state in 2003 when I installed Generals for the first ever time

Try this- smash your PC into small pieces, grind them together with 2 lbs flour, add 3 eggs and a dash of vanilla, and cook for 2 hours at 350 degrees. A friend had a similar problem, and this little fix did the trick. Hope it helps!!

...oh wait, you said it WASN'T funny. My apologies :P

I wish to raise this again for the sake of wanting to play Generals!?

Any further ideas?

Check your Generals disk, maybe it's too scratched (same prob with another game of mine)... Also, try to back them up, in case they're not yet too scratched... Learn from my mistakes, like, when I wanted to re-install TOEE it didn't cause the disk was sooo scratched already... Or fresh re-install of your PC... What is the version of your OS anyway?

XP, and I wanted to install this straight after i had a fresh install. I've re-installed windows anyway, that did jack, and I cannot be bothered to wipe the hard drive again, I've got too much on it. There's nothing wrong with this machine at all. All the games I own run smoothly, and I've had no crashes at all. With the exception of MoH: Pacific assault, but patching fixed that.

Question, Has anyone had problems installing the game with Service Pack 2? The fact is that before when I played Generals, I never had service pack 2 installed. Now that I have, this game just don't wanna get started.

Did a few Google searches. Other people have reported similar problems installing Generals and getting the _is*.tmp errors as well.

Some say the "Windows Installer" needs updating, so have a search for this on Microsoft's site. While other people say its an issue with ZoneAlarm. So if you have that running you must uninstall it, disabling it does not solve this issue.

Could well be Zonealarm, I never had that when I 1st had Generals... I think I'll give that a try. If not I'll try the windows installer.

Update:- Would you adam and eve it!? It worked!!! Who would have thought it was something simple as Zone alarm blocking the installation!!! W00t I can play! Thanks Sonic!

Don't worry the urge to play Generals will soon fade

Of course, but you still cannot deny the fact that it still has the best nuclear animation in any RTS. Sad thing though is I found myself building multiple superweapons. I hate doing that cos I'll hold on for about 10 minutes then launch about 8 nukes in one hit, it gets boring real fast!

Try the USA then. Particle Cannons keep you busy a lot longer!

unlimited money map? u disgust me

they're for noobs...all u do is mass mass and mass huge amounts of tanks and planes and superweapons until the whole game lags so slow and

its unbearable. its either building 20+ WFs or airfileds or SW and churning out units 24/7. its a complete stalemate...units are always stuck in the front lines in never ending waves of reinforcements.

unlimited money are for noobs. real players take map resourcse and prevent other players from getting it.

Oh my God GeneralZ, its nice to have fun. Not everyone plays to beat everyone and be competitive.

Unlimited money maps can be fun as hell when you're bored and just want to have non-stop battles.

Especially fun when everyone's got a good connection and a decent computer. ;)
