What meant was what if I sit down to watch the Back to the Future movies again, all I will think about is the "new" relationship between Marty and Doc Brown. It was just a funny comment I clearly failed at communicating to you.

Being deadly serious here. I've always thought there was more of an extended relationship between Doc and Marty. Obviously not in the way portrayed there in the video, but it seems to be a more complicated friendship than it first appears.

 

The back to the future trilogy has been the center of a few media studies lessons when I was at school. I came up with an essay describing relationships of characters within films and how they are portrayed to the viewer.

 

The relationship in back to the future is similar to love. But more a brotherly love rather than just a good friendship. The trust that was gained between the 2 of them in the twin pines mall when Marty saved Docs life in the first movie, creates that brotherhood bond between them. They seem to see each other as extended family.

Mate, it's taking advantage of the homosexual undertones in ROTS. Therefore making it funny. Like Lee said, a GSOH is required.
