[}Warbringer 9000{] 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Scince this is a forum that has one RTS series and a new RTS game now, I wanted to bring a favorite of mine. Only two games, the first and expansion, were made so far in the series, and both games won Game of The Year. Made by a well known PC game corperation responsible for the RPG series Diablo and RTS series Warcraft going into RPG. Let me introduce the Lord of RTS games, Starcraft. This all started in the 1997, when Starcraft came out. I was six, playing old Command and Conquer games like Red Alert or something like that. When the game came out, I admit, I was not interested. It was not something I was used to because, if I am correct, the first Science-Fiction RTS. But, my dad bought it anyways. The day after was when I first played it. There was three races that had their own specific strengths and weaknesses. I choose to play as the Terran first. The Terran were the humans in the game. Basically, middle-of-the-road in technological status, they were pretty dang good. Most useful unit in an offensive action had to be the Siege Tank. I really could not do much without some artillery or aircraft backing my infantry up. The Siege Tank is a tank that can transform into an artillery unit, for defensive or offensive purposes. The first real mission I played again and again trying to find different ways of beating it was Mission 7: Trump Card in the Terran Campaign. But the game overall was amazing. I think it was my favorite game to play. In 1998, Blizzard announced the arrival of the expansion to StarCraft. The name, StarCraft: Brood War. This game was somewhat similar to the original, only added units, different campaigns and new upgrades. A new unit I was very fond of is the Terran Valkyrie. An excellent air unit, splash damage, and it can win in 4 to 1 odds. But, I didn't get it until 1999. Overall, it is still a great game. A little fact: There have been 13 patches to StarCraft and Starcraft: Brood War. Battle.net is the most famous online gaming engine in the world. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted February 23, 2006 Yes with out a doubt Starcraft owns all. Its just a pitty Starcraft 2 is still a hell of along way off. Just like C&C 3. Share this post Link to post

J-Fire_Man 0 Posted February 26, 2006 traitors.... have 3 seconds before this post self-destructs Jsut to let you know that starcraft is the best RTS ever made 1st RTS ==> StarCraft 2nd RTS ==> Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 3rd RTS ==> LOTR BFME Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted February 26, 2006 Actually the second best RTS of all time is Red Alert. Not Red Alert 2. And as for LOTR BFME.. Bah yeah right. I'd rather play a nice game of Age of Empires or one of their equilevents than, that game.. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 42 Posted February 26, 2006 It goes like this -> StarCraft, Red Alert, Tiberian Dawn and then it falls downhill from there with no other games comparing remotely. Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted February 26, 2006 Havent played both Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn. But I know you two will agree with StarCraft as the best RTS And I hope Blizzard will anounce the official release date of StarCraft 2. How come it took so long for a sequel, it's been more than 7 years since Brood War released. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 42 Posted February 26, 2006 Seven years and still as strong as ever. Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted February 26, 2006 Yeah, the community is very big too. And there are many starcraft fanatics there, especially the South Korean. It's a rare occasion for a larhe number of Asians to be fanatic with an RTS game. Ussually they like playing adventure RPG games. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted February 26, 2006 well i was raised CnC....starcraft rocks...but id have to go with the CnC universe over it....... Share this post Link to post
Sonic 297 Posted February 26, 2006 It goes like this -> StarCraft, Red Alert, Tiberian Dawn and then it falls downhill from there with no other games comparing remotely. I would rank them like this.... 1. The original, the classic, the game that defined the RTS genre, Command & Conquer (I will not use that Tiberian Dawn **** name) 2. StarCraft 3. Red Alert J-Fire_Man, BFME 3rd best of all time.... great joke Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted February 26, 2006 1. Command and Conquer Red Alert 1 2. Command and Conquer 3. Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun 4. Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 I never really felt good about RA2, it was not very serious, and thats what I liked about RA1. Also, never really liked the graphics or how the gameplay is. I mean all people do in RA2 is just spam those jet guys and prism tanks, whoopie. Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted February 27, 2006 J-Fire_Man, BFME 3rd best of all time.... great joke I actually have no idea what to put in the 3rd rank wether it should be Warcraft III, Age of Empire, Age of Mythology, and many other RTS games because I think none of them qualify for the 3rd rank and their quality is almost the same. So, rather than making myself confused about choosing the 3rd rank, I just put LOTR BFME in the 3rd rank because I'm currently playing it And, it doesn't looks bad. Afterall, HAIL TO STARCRAFT Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 42 Posted February 27, 2006 1. The original, the classic, the game that defined the RTS genre No, sorry, I have to disagree. StarCraft really defined what an RTS should be. Nothing comes close, not even C&C. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted February 28, 2006 well its basically determined by opinion...i think CnC and SC are tied at first....CnC defines/invented RTS...and SC redefined RTS... hard choice for me to pick the best.... Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted February 28, 2006 1. The original, the classic, the game that defined the RTS genre No, sorry, I have to disagree. StarCraft really defined what an RTS should be. Nothing comes close, not even C&C. Yup. I'm sorry, I know that most people here adore CnC as the first rank RTS, but I always stick with StarCraft because it's the first game I played on computer and the first game and the only game that can make me still playing it for more than 8 years since it's first released. Sonic 297 Posted February 28, 2006 Ok then, put it this way. If Westwood never made Dune 2 then improved on that with C&C which in turn put the RTS genre in the spotlight games like StarCraft and other like it would have never been made. In my personal opinion, what C&C did for the RTS genre is what Doom did for the FPS genre. BTW, I've played my fair share of StarCraft as well. Its a great game. I don't want to see this turn into a C&C vs StarCraft thread. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted February 28, 2006 crap...i will practically be torn apart... but probably not CNC RULES! Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted February 28, 2006 I prefer Starcraft. But then the C&C series is an actual, series... As in more than one game. Which is why the C&C series as a whole is better than Starcraft. Though I wouldn't say any single game in the C&C series beats Starcraft by its self. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 42 Posted February 28, 2006 C&C is just one big storyline with divisions set as different games. StarCraft is the same thing but it a neater package. >_> Share this post Link to post
